LCES Updates 7/24/20: A Message from Ms. Sloan: Planning for Another GREAT Year!

A Message from Ms. Sloan: Planning for Another GREAT School Year!

Dear Lees Corner families,

On Tuesday night the school board supported Dr. Brabrand’ s recommendation to start the 2020-21 school year virtually for all students. We understand this decision has caused a range of emotions among families, students, and staff. These are uncertain and unprecedented times.

What remains certain and unchanged is our commitment to all of you to provide the best educational experience for all our students.  As a Lees Corner community, we will unite and continue to find creative ways to engage our students and remain a strong and connected school community. We are forever grateful for the way in which our PTA continues to connect with our families and school team to keep us all informed with timely information and resources!

We could not be prouder of our school staff for their teamwork and dedication to our students! Many of our staff are participating in professional development opportunities over the summer to further develop their skills so they can once again create highly engaging virtual learning environments that support the success of all students. While the beginning of the school year might be different than what many had hoped and planned for, we are busy preparing for a successful 2020-21 school year.

We are fortunate to support a variety of learners at Lees Corner! Once staff return to work in mid-August, we will participate in ongoing professional development and planning sessions to create an instructional program to support the needs of our students. We are strengthening our digital learning model so that we can provide an even more rigorous and engaging virtual-learning program with greater connections for all students at all grade levels. Before school begins, we will create opportunities to connect with our students and families to share final instructional schedules, specific to program and grade level information. We are planning for the virtual start, while also keeping in mind the need to transition smoothly into another plan, when directed by FCPS.

Next week, we will share our technology plan for all K-6 students with you. We will begin soon with a laptop collection event, as FCPS has acquired additional devices for some elementary grade level students. Please stay tuned for more information regarding our specific plan.

We are working diligently to shape a successful school year for our students and families. As we finalize details regarding our virtual school opening, we promise to keep you updated. Continue to enjoy the summer, and please stay safe and healthy!

Summer Office Hours

While the Lees Corner office staff continues to telework, we are now able to receive visitors and meet with families in person, via appointment only.

In Phase Three, visitors to FCPS will be required to make an appointment and must also wear a face covering or mask. To promote social distancing, school visitors will be limited and visits should occur by scheduled appointment only. No walk-in visitors are permitted. When a face-to-face appointment visit is necessary, the school will schedule an appointment time with the visitor and follow a series of protocols before the scheduled meeting.

If you need assistance with anything or to schedule an appointment, please do not hesitate to reach out to Matthew Miller at mrmiller@fcps.edu, Laura Tapper at latapper@fcps.edu, or VaRonica Sloan at vdsloan@fcps.edu.

If you would like to register your child for school, please email Betty Nolan at BLNolan@fcps.edu.
