Ravens' Nest- July 24, 2020

Message from the Principal

Dear Ravensworth Families,

As you have already heard, Tuesday night the Fairfax County School Board supported Superintendent Brabrand’s recommendation to begin the 2020-21 school year with virtual learning for all students.  The online school year will begin as scheduled on September 8, 2020.  Our first priority is the health and safety of our students and staff.

Schools are in the process of developing plans.  Many of you have emailed questions about bell schedules, teaching schedules, online resources, laptop distribution, and much more.  As soon as this information is available, we will continue to send information to the Ravensworth community.

Below is a little bit of information about what to expect:

  • On-line learning provides four days (Tuesday through Friday) of live, face-to-face instruction with teachers.
  • Elementary students will receive real-time, interactive instruction each day.
  • The elementary day will also consist of additional small group instruction, intervention supports, and independent learning activities assigned to students.
  • Student work will be graded and attendance is required.
  • Mondays will remain a teacher planning day

Ravensworth is dedicated to spending the weeks before September 8 preparing for the fall.  We will provide additional training for our teachers to better meet the needs of our students.  We will also provide distance learning supports and guidance for our families later in August.  Our staff is deeply committed and incredibly eager to get started with your children for the school year. Thank you for trusting us.

As additional information becomes available, we will communicate with you as quickly as possible. We understand this is a difficult time and families may be feeling a variety of emotions around this change. Take good care and stay healthy.

Sincerely,

Erika Aspuria

Principal

Mental Wellness Consultation 2020

The FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will continue to offer mental wellness consultations throughout the summer. If you have concerns about your child’s well-being or if your child would like to speak with a school psychologist or school social worker, please request a consultation.  Our FCPS mental health providers are available to help families get needed support through a 45-minute phone consultation or through secure video conferencing. Appointments are open to all FCPS families.

Consultations are offered in two ways:

  • Directly to parents of students in any grade level. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social-emotional, behavioral, or academic functioning. Information about community resources will also be made available.
  • Directly to students in middle or high school. This consultation provides support and strategies to students who may be experiencing difficulties with anxiety, mood, behavior, or peer or family interactions; as well as academic challenges such as organization, time-management, or adjusting to a new school.

We encourage parents to take advantage of this service. Click here to request a consultation. You may also leave us a message at 571-423-4276.

Information for current Rising LBSS 7th graders (Ravensworth’s 6th graders last school year)

Dear Parents/Guardians of a Rising 7th Grader,

We are happy to share that our Jump Start site is now up and running!  Since we cannot all be together this summer for our traditional Jump Start Program, we wanted to create a virtual opportunity for students to explore more about Lake Braddock and receive some helpful tips for a successful middle school experience.  To access the Jump Start site, CLICK HERE, or visit the main page of the Lake Braddock website and look for the Jump Start announcement (Coming Soon!).

Be sure to check back in August as we will be offering virtual opportunities for students to connect!  Make sure you are registered to receive our News You Choose so you will know when these opportunities become available.

As we learn more about the opening of school this year, we will continue to update our Jump Start site as needed.

Sincerely,

Daniel W. Smith, Ed.D. Principal, Lake Braddock Secondary School
