For Rising 6th Graders: Glasgow MS Jump Start Program

Note from Glasgow MS

Dear Rising 6th Grade Parent/Guardian:

We are excited to announce that Glasgow Middle School will host a FREE Virtual Jump Start program for rising 6th graders on August 3-4 to prepare them for their transition to middle school.

This transition program is designed to both welcome and support 6th graders by assigning them a Glasgow teacher to lead them through a variety of synchronous and asynchronous activities. Rising 6th-graders will also have the opportunity to interact with a panel of 7th- and 8th-graders to hear more from a student perspective.

Our rising 6th-graders will be able to participate in several activities created by students and staff to welcome them to Glasgow. Students will get acclimated to their new school through a series of team-building and ice-breaker activities that allow them to meet and interact with their new peers and teachers. They will also participate in a virtual tour of the building and classrooms and have an opportunity to ask other important questions they may have before school begins.

Moreover, we believe participation in Jump Start helps alleviate any anxiety and concerns students may have about attending a new school and builds excitement about the opportunities that await them at Glasgow Middle School. Jump Start will take place during the hours of 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. with a variety of synchronous and asynchronous activities. Please see the suggested daily schedule below:

  • 10:00-11:00: Synchronous Sessions via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra
  • 11:00-12:00: Asynchronous Activities via the Glasgow Grid
  • 12:00-1:15: Lunch Break (On Your Own)
  • 1:15-2:15: Asynchronous Activities via the Glasgow Grid
