Glasgow Community Gazette - July 12

Glasgow Community:

This has been a busy week at Glasgow! We held two Glasgow Family Town Halls hosting over 275 families in both English and Spanish, and on Monday, July 13, at 6:00pm we will host a Town Hall in Arabic. We will host additional family town halls closer to the beginning of school as we have more information.

As a reminder, the Return to School decision form is due by July 15th and can be found via https://www.fcps.edu/enroll2020.  Families have a choice of in-school learning for students with health and social distancing protocols in place or an online, virtual learning option at the family’s request. If you do not complete the form, in-school learning will automatically be selected for you. This week, we have a team of Glasgow staff who will be calling families in multiple languages who have not yet completed the form to offer any assistance in completing the form and/or answer any last minute questions you might have.

I know that deciding how your child will return to school is a difficult decision. You are all asking very thoughtful questions and have very thoughtful suggestions. Please continue reaching out to me at kemadigan@fcps.edu, or to Joash Chung, our Director of Student Services, at jhchung@fcps.edu. We are always available to answer questions and support your decision making in any way possible. I also encourage you to periodically check the FCPS Return to School website, which is updated regularly.

At Glasgow, we say that we Start Strong and Finish Stronger. Staff have already been hard at work to ensure the building is ready and that we have thoroughly planned out the unique logistics this year holds. My goal is to balance the educational needs of Glasgow MS students with our need to ensure a safe learning environment. In this process, our first priority remains the health and safety of our students and staff. It truly takes an entire community to help ensure Glasgow will start strong - I am grateful for our staff and families for your continued support.

Please reach out for questions and feedback.

Summer Programs

Summer Learning Opportunities - Our summer learning opportunities are up and running at Glasgow. If your student has not already, he/she should receive their Language Arts & Math review workbooks in the mail.  If you opted out of receiving the paper workbooks during distance learning and did not opt back in, your student will need to access the review workbooks online through Blackboard 24/7. Office hours are available using the schedule below. If you would like your child to receive the link for the office hours - please contact Molly Walsh or Deirdre Levin.

If you have any questions during summer learning, please reach out to Molly Walsh, molly.walsh20@gmail.com, or Deirdre Levin, dmcshea@fcps.edu, for support.
