REMINDER: Return to School Option

An email was recently sent to all parents and guardians regarding education options for their students which included the information below. For the coming year, parents and caregivers have two learning options for their students:

  • Full-time online instruction,

OR

  • In-person instruction with social distancing in our school buildings.

Responses are due by July 10, 2020. If no response is received, the student will automatically be enrolled for in-person instruction for the year.

Additional details on the two choices can be found at the links below:

This form is accessible through mobile devices. Translations of the form are available using the language selection option on the webpage. To select the option that works best for your child or children, please follow the steps below:

Information and Updates

.

From the Library:

  • Great books are as close as your phone or other device! All students have access to a wide variety of ebooks and e-audiobooks through your individual Destiny accounts. Use your regular school credentials to log on here, or download the MackinVIA app. Rising 9th graders’ Destiny accounts will link to Herndon High School’s library instead your prior middle school by the end of June.  The home page of Destiny includes suggestions for summer reading for English classes, and some great books and resources that can support students interested in antiracism.
  • If you think that teens are too old for Fairfax County Public Library’s Summer Reading Adventure, you’re in for a surprise! Up to 15 challenges that you can accept, with 3 milestones along the way. If you submit the milestone forms by August 14, you’re in the running for Amazon gift cards valued up to $150. It’s going on now… what are you waiting on?

Mental Wellness Consultation 2020

The FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will continue to offer mental wellness consultations throughout the summer. If you have concerns about your child’s well-being or if your child would like to speak with a school psychologist or school social worker, please request a consultation.  Our FCPS mental health providers are available to help families get needed support through a 45-minute phone consultation or through secure video conferencing. Appointments are open to all FCPS families.

Consultations are offered in two ways:

  • Directly to parents of students in any grade level. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social-emotional, behavioral, or academic functioning. Information about community resources will also be made available.
  • Directly to students in middle or high school. This consultation provides support and strategies to students who may be experiencing difficulties with anxiety, mood, behavior, or peer or family interactions; as well as academic challenges such as organization, time-management, or adjusting to a new school.

We encourage parents to take advantage of this service. Click here to request a consultation. You may also leave us a message at 571-423-4276.
