Glasgow Community Gazette - July 5

Glasgow Community:

I hope that you all are finding time to rest and relax! I was lucky to spend some time with my family at our place in Northern Michigan. The weather was amazing, the sunsets were beautiful, and I felt grateful for time to reflect both on the year we just closed out and on our next steps as a school. I have been reading several of Catlin Tucker’s books about blended learning as well as rereading Zaretta Hammond’s “Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain,” great and relevant titles to guide our work.

By now you have heard about and received communication from the Division concerning the Return to School framework. Families will have a choice of in-school learning for students with health and social distancing protocols in place or an online, virtual learning option at the family’s request. Families will need to decide by July 10th if they will enroll their child for in-person or online learning for the coming 2020-2021 school year. It is very important that all families complete this enrollment form for each child in FCPS so that schools can ensure adequate staffing for online and in-person classes.

I am certain that you have more questions than answers at this time and you would like to have as much information as possible so you make an informed decision. Many of you attended the Justice Pyramid Town Hall last week and several of you have reached out individually to ask questions. As you know, we have some answers and there is still quite a lot of information that is still to be determined. On Tuesday, July 7, at 6:00pm (English) and 7:30pm (Spanish) we will be holding a Glasgow MS Town Hall to help answer any middle school and Glasgow specific questions. Please RSVP to be sent the link prior to the session and ask any questions that you might like answered prior to the meeting.

As we plan for the upcoming year guided by FCPS, my goal is to balance the educational needs of Glasgow MS students with our need to ensure a safe learning environment. In this process, our first priority remains the health and safety of our students and staff.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Please reach out for questions and feedback.

Summer Programs

Summer Learning Opportunities - Our summer learning opportunities are up and running at Glasgow. If your student has not already, he/she should receive their Language Arts & Math review workbooks in the mail.  If you opted out of receiving the paper workbooks during distance learning and did not opt back in, your student will need to access the review workbooks online through Blackboard 24/7. Office hours are available using the schedule below. If you would like your child to receive the link for the office hours - please contact Molly Walsh or Deirdre Levin.

If you have any questions during summer learning, please reach out to Molly Walsh, molly.walsh20@gmail.com, or Deirdre Levin, dmcshea@fcps.edu, for support.
