LCES Updates 6/19/20: So Many Summer Resources!

Jt

On June 18, 2020, Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Scott Brabrand, announced, " While we have taken steps toward creating an inclusive and compassionate environment, there is clearly much more work to be done. So today, as a step on that journey, I am announcing that FCPS will observe Friday, June 19, as an official holiday for FCPS employees, in recognition of Juneteenth"

Together We Did It!

Dear Lees Corner Families and Friends,

The 2019-2020 school year has officially ended for both students and staff and our attention is now focused on planning and preparing for the 2020-2021 school year. Before we move on, it is important for us all to take some time to reflect on all we accomplished together and to express our gratitude.

We were awed by the flexibility and perseverance of our staff, students, and families during such challenging times. Although the shift to distance learning had a few bumps, we must recognize the colossal efforts and accomplishments of our school community!

We are so glad you were able to witness how our staff continued to build community with our students, found ways to provide instruction via completely new platforms, and worked to keep the lines of communication and collaboration open through weekly emails, phone calls, and small groups/lunch bunches!

It is also essential that we recognize the great shifts and sacrifices our families and students have made. Students learned a different way of attending school and became more independent learners away from their teachers and friends.

Parents juggled multiple tasks, varying work situations, and stressors that did not exist a few months ago. Hats off to you for figuring out how to navigate these factors while remaining positive, hopeful, and supportive!

Please know we remain committed to the academic, social, and emotional success of your children. Whatever final plans for the coming school year will be, we will continue to nurture your child’s strengths, find ways to connect with them, and provide meaningful learning opportunities.

We hope this summer is filled with activities that bring you joy. Stay safe, Lees Corner!

Your Proud LCES Team,

VaRonica Sloan, Principal

Laura Tapper, Assistant Principal &

The Lees Corner Staff

A Message from Mrs. Yellen, School Social Worker

Hello Lees Corner Families! With the clinical staff being out of the building for most of the summer, I want to offer a resource to help support your student’s social and emotional well-being. I have created a virtual Google office for you and your student to explore together that is full of activities, music, read-alouds and ideas!

Almost every picture in the office is a link! You will also find a “Parents Corner” which will connect you to FCPS provided resources, videos made by the clinical team, and articles focused on how to talk to your child about current events. I hope you and your student enjoy exploring my office this summer! Please note, you will need to be logged in to your child’s FCPS google account to view the page.

FCPS' Summer Continuity of Learning

FCPS school buildings will remain closed through the end of July. Therefore, we will continue to provide recommended distance learning opportunities for students throughout the summer.

  • Your students will have access to skill practice through the iReady digital lessons through the FCPS public Universal Screener website. Students will need to enter their FCPS login credentials to access these resources. These digital activities will be available until Friday, July 31st
  • Additionally, students currently in grades K-6 will receive both a Mathematics and a Language Arts Essentials Summer Practice Book in the mail by the end of June. Digital versions of the books will also be posted on the Continuity of Learning Blackboard page. These books will provide recommended practice activities for students to review essential content from the 2019-2020 school year; they are not intended to preview content from next year’s grade level but rather reinforce essential learning from this past year.
