Dear White Oaks Families,
It is truly hard to believe that we have arrived at the end of the school year. I want to thank everyone for the support and patience shown throughout this year and especially over the past four months. We had great successes and some daunting challenges, yet despite all, we continued the work that needed to be done to ensure the safety and educational needs of our students. There are countless people to whom I owe an expression of gratitude and I hope that our continued work together in the future will further blossom.
While area schools were still operating under normal conditions, our White Oaks staff was able to enhance our school’s ability to clearly communicate the level of learning that was happening in our classrooms through frequent teacher communications of student learning targets. This was a new practice this year and one that I intend to continue and enhance. Additionally, the staff and I have been able to strengthen our workshop model approach to literacy and math instruction. We continue to see positive trends in our academic data related to this structure.
During the final few months of school this year, our educational delivery took a very different turn. While we had a rough start to distance learning, your commitment and support made this unusual time successful for children. I witnessed the true power of our entire school community as it united. This experience has made our partnership stronger with a clarified outcome of sustaining our goals and ensuring that our students are everyone’s top priority.
I would like to thank our hard working and caring faculty and staff who have made a huge difference in our students’ lives. Their commitment to our community and WOES is outstanding, and your children are the beneficiaries. Thank you for providing rich and engaging, well-rounded experiences for our kids and for knowing that education is about allowing time to wonder and fostering curiosity. These things along with the development of social skills are so important for success especially during these challenging times. For these and a million other factors, I am truly grateful.
In closing, I take this opportunity to congratulate all students of White Oaks Elementary School! I wish you all a very happy, safe and relaxing summer. Please be sure to take time as a family to talk, play and READ together.
I look forward to seeing you in August in some capacity. To those of you who are leaving our community for new places, I wish you all the best!!
Sincerely,
Ryan Richardson, Principal
