HES School House News

June 11, 2020

Hayfield Elementary Families:

What a whirlwind of a year it has been! None of us could have predicted the magnitude of the situation our world has been in and that we would end our 2019-2020 school year virtually. Our staff continues to miss our students on a daily basis and look forward to the day when we can see each other again. We have to share how grateful we are to our teachers and resource/support staff for all of their hard work and dedication as they took on the new challenge of Distance Learning. We are also grateful to you for the unending support you have provided to your children and to our staff as we figured all of this out together. Hayfield continues to be a very strong community of people who do whatever it takes to support one another.

As we finish this school year strong, we are also doing all we can to prepare for next school year. We would like to share the following changes to our staffing for the 2020-2021 school year:

  1. Janey Markon will be moving to 5thgrade
  2. Jeff Brown will be moving to 6thgrade
  3. Lauren Joseph will be moving to 6thgrade
  4. Tracy Henderson will be moving to 4thgrade

We also want to wish the following Hawks all the best as they spread their wings and take on new challenges for next school year:

  1. Lynn Schwartz, 1stGrade Teacher
  2. Kate Cordell, 6thGrade Teacher
  3. Nicole McGuigan, Instructional Assistant
  4. Ruth Drickey, Health & PE Teacher
  5. Maggie Gawen, Advanced Academics Resource Teacher

We wish you and your family a safe summer. As we learn more about what the 2020-2021 school year will bring, we will be sure to communicate with you early and often.

Take care,

Jessica Lewis and Samantha Goldstein

Reminder Regarding Teacher Requests

at HES for the 2020-2021 School Year

As we begin planning for the next school year, one of our most challenging tasks is creating class groupings. It is very important to have balanced classes that reflect the diversity of our students. These decisions are made with input from your child’s current teacher. We ask parents who have special considerations to submit their requests in writing, telling us about your child’s learning style, strengths and weaknesses. You may also want to list characteristics of a teacher that would best match your student’s needs. Requests for specific teachers will not be honored. All requests should be emailed to jrlewis@fcps.edu. The deadline for submitting requests is the last day of school for students (June 12). We appreciate, in advance, your support and cooperation with this process.

HES Distance Learning

Students may continue to use online resources provided by HES and FCPS over the summer. Hayfield’s Distance Learning Site will remain accessible in the Blackboard 24/7 Learning Portal. Any laptops that were distributed to students will remain with the student until more information is provided by FCPS.

Registration for School Year 2020-2021

Children residing in our boundaries who will turn 5 years old on or before September 30, 2020, as well as students in grades 1-6 transferring from Private/Home Schools or moving into our boundaries prior to the start of the new school year may visit our website and select an appointment to register. Due to the closure of schools, appointments through June are cancelled.  However, we are asking that anyone needing to register new students for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year select an available appointment by visiting our Student Registration page and clicking the button. This will allow our registrar to notify you of any steps that may be taken in the meantime to process the enrollment, get immediate information to you for when we are back up and running and if earlier appointments become available, as well as allow us to adequately prepare for next school year.  Please note that staffing for next school year is supported by early registration. Please do not wait to sign up for an appointment. We appreciate your support in this effort!

All information pertaining to registration, including eligibility and forms is outlined in the Sign-Up Genius where the appointment selection is available.https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050f49aca62aa46-20202021
