Fairview Fanfare - June 10

June 10, 2020

Dear Families,

As we conclude the 2019-2020 school year tomorrow with our final day of synchronous learning, we are reminded of our community’s strength, perseverance, and care. This was a school year like none other. We appreciate the school community supporting the Fairview staff during a year of change, challenge, and uncertainties. We are FAIRVIEW STRONG!

The Fairview Staff recognizes that our nation continues to grapple with racism and hate as we close this school year. The staff is committed to equity, social justice, diversity, and inclusion. We encourage everyone to take the time to reflect, listen, and learn together. To our Black and African American students, staff, and families, we echo Dr. Brabrand’s words in saying, “We see you, we believe in you, and we stand with you.”

Tomorrow is a special day at Fairview as we honor and celebrate the Fairview Class of 2020. As soaring Falcons, they have exemplified resiliency, flexibility, compassion and excellence. We wish them well as they transition into seventh grade. Their Fairview family will continue to be their champion in the years to come. We are excited about their future as individuals and as a class.

We wish you well as summer begins, and we will remain in touch as we launch summer learning and plan for the new year.

Sincerely,

Sara Van Aalst

Principal

Congratulations, Mrs. Moser!

moser

Mrs. Pamela Moser is retiring this year after a beautiful career with Fairview.  She served as a classroom teacher, a Level IV teacher, the Instructional Coach, and the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher.  More than that, she served us as a community connection, a student supporter, and a listening ear. Many of her students recognized her as a “princess,” someone who guided their learning with a royal respect for each of them within their classroom kingdom.   Her cheerful demeanor lit the room and we will all miss her joyful spirit. Best wishes, Mrs. Moser, as you continue your royal venture into retirement.

 Continuity of Learning: Summer Plans

Due to school closures, FCPS will offer free resources for all students and families who wish to continue distance learning throughout the summer.  Virtual resources will be available on Blackboard 24-7. Additionally, two Essentials Summer Practice Books – one for Language Arts and one for Mathematics – will be mailed home to students.

Selected teachers will hold weekly office hours from Monday, June 29, 2020 through Friday, July 31, 2020, to address student questions and review content from the Essentials Summer Practice Books.

Please complete this FORM if your student will participate.

Our program coordinator is Ms. Rachel Bowerman, Fairview's Literacy Coach.

Her email address is: rmbowerman@fcps.edu

Student Access to i-Ready Learning Materials

Here is a video from Mr. Flint, School Based Technology Specialist, to help you access this additional resource: https://safeyoutube.net/w/oUzK

iReady instruction is available for use by K-6 elementary school students during June and July of 2020. Lessons will be curated based on the student’s most recent test score in reading or mathematics during the fall or winter test windows. This is being turned on to provide optional individual practice to students.

If a student has not completed an assessment, lessons have been curated with current grade level content and foundational skills. Access to iReady will be turned off August 1, 2020.
