A Note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Rocky Run Families and Students,

Today is the last day of school, hurray!!! Congratulations on a great school year.  2019-2020 was definitely a year to remember.  While it may not have ended the way we planned, I am so proud of the hard work of our students and staff and they finished up the year strong in Distance Learning.  My hope for each of you is to enjoy the summer, read, relax and recharge. I will share updates throughout the summer on how we will return to learn in the fall.  Stay tuned!

Family Distance Learning Survey

As we end a year of learning together at Rocky Run, we are looking for input from our families; your feedback will help us to better understand your experiences and needs during distance learning.

Thank you for completing this survey (English).

Congratulations and Farewell

We wish all the best the future holds for Fran Legendre, Special Education English Teacher (pictured below), who is retiring after 16 years of service at Rocky Run MS and 20 total years in FCPS.  Mrs. Legendre has been a champion for all students and has shared her love of reading and English with countless students over the year.  We are so grateful for her tremendous work and know she will continue to have a positive impact on her community and especially as a grandmother to her amazing grandchildren. Congratulations!

Farewell to RRMS Faculty

Several of our RRMS colleagues are moving on to other schools or new things next year.  We are so thankful to each of our colleagues for their contributions to Rocky Run and we wish them the best of luck:

Laura Hugo, Spanish

Mike Leonberger, Special Education

Larry Little, PE transferring to Hayfield MS

Kelly Madden, English transferring to Liberty MS

Megan Stone, Spanish transferring to Smarts Mill MS (LCPS)

Trena Weiss, Theater, transferring to Thoreau MS

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me (atgoodloe@fcps.edu) and I will respond to you as soon as I am able.  Wishing all of our students and families a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Amy Goodloe, Principal

Rising 7th Grade Parent Coffee

Dr. Goodloe and the Rocky Run Student Services team had a chance to "virtually" meet with our rising 7th grade families last Monday and Tuesday during Parent Coffee meetings. We had over 230 parents/guardians and we truly enjoyed connecting with them. As promised, here is the link to the recorded session and presentation

Final Grades and Report Cards

Final grades will be available in SIS ParentVue on Tuesday, June 16. Report cards will be printed and mailed from the central office in late June. Please note that teachers' last day is June 15 and counselors' last day is June 18. Contact teachers and/or counselors if you have any questions about your child's final grades.

Free Summer Learning Opportunity: Continuity of Learning- Summer Workbooks and Teacher Support

FCPS students of all grade levels will receive summer workbooks that focus on mathematics and literacy skills. Students can choose to use these workbooks to support their learning and students can sign up to attend office hours with current middle school teachers from June 29 to July 31.

You can find more information and resources on the FCPS website as well as our School Website. Contact our resource teacher, Sandra Meador at SRMeador@fcps.edu this program.

For all other additional summer offerings and support through FCPS summer learning program, visit the Summer Learning site or contact your child's counselor.

Expunge High School Credits

The request to remove a HS credit bearing course from the transcript must be made in writing to the middle or high school that the student will attend the following year and prior to the end of the first nine weeks of the school year.

See Request to Expunge High School Courses Taken in Middle School Form.  If you have questions or concerns regarding this, please contact your child’s school counselor no later than June 15.  After this date, please contact your child’s high school counselor.

Student Intention Form for 20-21 School Year

Please complete the Student Intention form for the next school year, https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/it110.pdf if your student is transferring to another school. Please send the completed form to Ms. Cindy Coreas, our Registrar via email at cacoreaschav@fcps.edu.

After School Updates

I hope this email finds you well – even during such unprecedented times!  It was such a bummer for our year to be cut short for so many reasons – missing the annual Rocky Run/Franklin game being one of them.  I know you had committed a lot of time to prepare for our game- either as a player, team manager, or dance team member, so I would like to get your t-shirts to you.

I will be at Rocky Run this upcoming Monday, June 8th, from 2:00-4:00 pm for CURBSIDE pickup; you will not need to exit your car.  Drivers should enter the school campus via Stringfellow Road and line up in the Bus Lane by DOOR 4 (the new addition) for pick up. Please be sure to print your student’s name and student ID in bold large print on a piece of paper so we can identify you easily.  If you are unable to make it on Monday afternoon, please email Shannon Campbell at slcampbell@fcps.edu to arrange an alternate pick-up date/time.

Library Resources

All FCPS students have access to district-purchased ebooks and audiobooks through Destiny Discover and MackinVIA. Students can read ebooks and listen to audiobooks on the MackinVIA website or download the MackinVIA app to any device, using the blue Fairfax County button, NOT the Follett sign in.

Explore the Destiny Discover library catalog to find FCPS-purchased ebooks and audiobooks. Students also have access using the desktop icon on their school-issued laptop. For more information on how to use and access ebooks and audiobooks, use these tutorials found on the Library Google Site (accessed with a student's fcpsschools account).

Finally, for even more titles, the Fairfax County Public Library offers a wide selection of ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines. If you do not have a library card, sign up for one on their website and gain instant access to these digital resources and more!

Feel free to contact Ms. Grover (ragrover@fcps.edu) or Ms. Bickford (elbickford@fcps.edu) with any questions related to e-reading.
