Weyanoke Weekly Update for June 15, 2020

A message from the principals

Ms. Usher and Ms. Doyle

Dear Weyanoke Families,

We have come to the end of a year unlike any other. We celebrated together at community events like Popsicles in the Park, our Veterans Day celebration and Curriculum Night. We had our first Fun Run and raised over $7000 to build an outdoor classroom! We also successfully transitioned into distance learning in March and look forward to continuing our learning over the summer. We appreciate your support throughout this school year and we are excited about coming together again next school year!

We want to share with you that some of our staff members will go on to new adventures this year.

  • Ms. Baughan, Second Grade
  • Ms. Bryant, Fifth Grade
  • Ms. Fitzpatrick, Fourth Grade
  • Ms. Haggard, Third Grade
  • Ms. Melz, Counselor

Additionally, we would like to congratulate Ms. Lynch on her retirement after 39 years of being an educator! Ms. Lynch has been integral in providing English Language Development to Weyanoke students for the last seven years and will be sorely missed. We wish her the best as she transitions into retirement.

Please take care of yourselves and your families. We wish you a wonderful and relaxing summer vacation!

Ms. Usher and Ms. Doyle

Dear Weyanoke Families,

FCPS school buildings will remain closed through the end of July. Therefore, we will continue to provide recommended distance learning opportunities for students throughout the summer. Your students will have access to skill practice through the iReady digital lessons through the FCPS public Universal Screener website. Students will need to enter their FCPS login credentials to access these resources. These digital activities will be available until Friday, July 31st.

Additionally, students currently in grades K-6 will receive both a Mathematics and a Language Arts Essentials Summer Practice Book. Supplemental materials for special education and ESOL students will also be sent in the mail by the end of June. Digital versions of the books will also be posted on the Continuity of Learning Blackboard page. These books will provide recommended practice activities for students to review essential content from the 2019-2020 school year; they are not intended to preview content from next year’s grade level but rather reinforce essential learning from this past year.

All students will have access to these activities from June 29 to July 31. Students will have the opportunity to attend one virtual office hour each day, Monday - Thursday with one of our own outstanding staff members. The schedule is as follows:

  • Kindergarten: Ms. Meyers and Ms. Drummond, 9:00 - 10:00am
  • Grade 1: Ms. Spear and Ms. Bourdon, 9:30 - 10:30
  • Grade 2: Ms. Hale and Ms. Callaman, 11:00 - 12:00
  • Grade 3: Ms. McCleaf and Ms. Wang, 10:00 - 11:00
  • Grade 4: Ms. Lemke and Ms. McCready, 2:00 - 3:00
  • Grade 5: Dr. Christopher, 2:00 - 3:00
  • Special Education: Ms. Pieragostini, Tuesdays at 9:30 - 10:00 (Grades K-2), 10:00 - 10:30 (Grades 3-5)
  • English Language Development: Mr. Alodah, Mondays at 8:30 - 9:00 (Grades 3-5), 9:00 - 9:30 (Grades K-2)

All Weyanoke students will be enrolled in their grade-level course. Your child will receive log-in information via their FCPS Google email address prior to the first session.

What is P-EBT?

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) is a temporary food benefit available in Virginia to families with children who would have received free or reduced-price meals if schools were open. The program is authorized through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) are working together to operate the program.
