WAKEFIELD FOREST ES Weekly Message

WFESfront

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

This has been a very difficult few weeks for our school, community and country. There is much work to be done to address the racism that continues to grip our nation. Racism and hate have no place in Wakefield Forest or Fairfax County Public Schools. Listed among the beliefs when you enter our school is - We believe in creating a safe, inclusive, and challenging environment where diversity is valued.

I have asked the grade level teams to share an age-appropriate lesson on the topic of racism. These lessons are just a step in what will be a journey as a school and division. Because school buildings remain closed through the month of July, I will offer virtual opportunities for families to connect with me on this topic over the summer. Until then, I will be listening, reading and reflecting.

As our school year comes to a close, we hope that you will join us to say goodbye on Thursday for our 6th graders and Friday for our Kindergarten – Fifth Graders. We will certainly miss our traditional farewell hugs and ceremonies that lead into summer break, but we hope this fun opportunity will provide our students and staff a sense of closure.

I am very proud to be the principal of Wakefield Forest Elementary, a school and community that shows how very much they care for students, families, and each other.

Thank you.

Sharyn Prindle
Principal

Important message from the Wakefield Forest Library
Thank you to everyone who returned library books during student material pickup on 6/1 and 6/2! After checking in all books that were dropped off, as well as all books returned from the classrooms and from SACC, we are still missing a little over 300 materials.

All parents of students that still have library books checked out received an email listing the books and their replacement costs on the evening of Monday, 6/8.

Please look for these books at home and make arrangements to return them to Wakefield Forest as soon as possible. Please contact the main office at 703-503-2300 to arrange a time to drop them off.

Please contact Wakefield Forest librarian Amy Rapuano at alrapuano@fcps.edu if you have any questions.

Laptops
All students who have borrowed a laptop from Wakefield Forest ES and are returning next year may keep the devices through the summer in order to support the Continuity of Learning. Sixth grade laptops will be collected in August. If you have borrowed a device and are moving, please contact alwilliams1@fcps.edu to schedule a drop off time.
