6th gr celebration

Today, Friday, June 5th was the Herndon ES "Drive Through" 6th Grade Celebration and Pick Up your Belongings Day.  Teachers, staff, and the PTA 6th Grade Celebration committee were there to greet the students with smiling eyes and a whole lot of love and pride!  They received special certificates, picked up their belongings, and got to see their teachers in real life!

To our rising 7th graders, you are very resilient and prepared for this next step.  YOU are Herndon Bees!!!  We love you!

Mrs. Fennessy's Friday Song!

Dear Bees,

This Friday, I would like to share another song (Bridge Over Troubled Water) by the South Lakes High School Pyramid! We are your bridge, bees!

Love,

Mrs. Fennessy

A Message from the Herndon Pyramid Principals

Dear Herndon Pyramid Families-

We reach out to you today as a united group of educational leaders in the Herndon Pyramid to acknowledge the events that have transpired illuminating the anger and hurt that exists in our country.  Racism and hate have no place in the Herndon Pyramid and we will continue to strive towards inclusivity and compassion for all while providing hope for our future.  To our Black and African American families and community members, we echo the words of our Superintendent, Dr. Brabrand, as he shared with the FCPS staff, “We see you, we believe you, and we stand with you.”

For many in our community, these recent events are raw and understandably quite upsetting.  It is important, yet impossible to comprehend centuries of horrifying injustice against minorities in this nation, particularly Blacks and African Americans.  We will not sit silently.  We have worked together to create environments where our students are welcome, and their voices are heard.  In our classrooms, and within our school communities, we will continue to learn about, value, and embrace each other’s differences while working to change the conditions that create inequalities.  We also work alongside our Equity Leads who ensure that we bring an awareness to our practices with an equity lens to ensure that we address the issues of racism and bias.  We are committed to this work and are determined to be a beacon for change.

The conversation does not stop with this letter or with one action towards addressing injustice, it does not stop with the leaders in the Herndon Pyramid Schools, it does not stop with one conversation; it never ends.

As families, here are a few resources you may want to consider using as you have important conversations with your children:

As always, we thank you for your trust and your partnership.  We are hopeful about our future as we teach our students to be the change they wish to see in the world.  As a community, we are here, and we stand together; we are Herndon Strong!

painted rocks

HES psychologist, Daniela Wiseman, started painting rocks, which includes animals, birds and insects with positive messages, and leaves them behind on trails where she walks.  Here is a picture of a collection of some of the rocks that she created, which includes the Herndon Bee Positive one that has been placed in the front of the school by the library mailbox.
