OES Weekly Message

Dear Oakton Community,

As a person who has dedicated her life's work to educating and supporting children, I am heartbroken by the events of this past week.  Hatred, racism and violence have no place in our community.

Oakton Elementary will continue to be a place where all of our students are welcomed, valued, and supported.  We embrace the learning we have been doing with The Positivity Project this year and we truly believe #OtherPeopleMatter.

The OES staff is committed to continuing our learning so we can do a better job of confronting these important issues.  We can always improve so that we can best meet the needs of your children. We welcome working, learning, and hearing from you on how we can tackle these issues together.

Sincerely,

Chris Kelley

goodbye

A Fond Farewell...

The end of the year inevitably brings changes to our Oakton Staff and we must say goodbye to some people who have made a significant impact on our school.  We're sad to see them go and wish them the very best in their endeavors.

Maria Gevirtz, Special Education Teacher, is moving with her husband to the Richmond area and has accepted a job in Chesterfield County. Megan McKenzie, 5th Grade Teacher, is moving to Belgium!  Morgan Berry, 2nd grade teacher, is excited to be closer to family and is moving to Tennessee.  Jessica Chang, 4th Grade Teacher, is entering into the field of English as a Second Language and will an ESOL teacher at Providence Elementary. And, Tony Gray, Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, has accepted a position a little closer to home at Wakefield Forest ES.  We will miss them all!

Character Strength Focus: Creativity

Creative people are able to look at the world in original ways. They are open to new experiences, and have an imaginative and independent thought process. They are able to generate lots of different ideas, and have the capacity to go after certain ideas they’ve generated with energy and enthusiasm. Creativity is a process that takes courage. Anytime you’re putting your original ideas into the world, you risk being criticized or even ostracized.

student materials

Shout Out to Mr. Eck!

Mr. Eck almost single-handedly organized, alphabetized and distributed over 800 bags full of student materials, returned medications, gathered library books and instruments, and tried to reduce the lost & found!  He is the BEST!

Thank you to Ms. Doyle, Ms. Lopez, & Mrs. Holsclaw for their help too.

And, thank you to everyone who picked up materials!
