Message from the Fairfax Pyramid Principals

Dear Fairfax Pyramid Families,

While we spend the next couple of weeks celebrating our Class of 2020, their successes, strength, and determination, we are reminded of the great hope we have in our future.  Our graduates are resilient; our graduates are optimistic; and our graduates hold the promise of creating a bright future for our world.  We are proud of them, and we are proud to serve our community.

Despite the bright light that our students cast, the darkness of the recent events in our country anger, frustrate, and challenge us as community leaders.  It angers us to bear witness to injustice; it frustrates us to know that we explicitly have not only a need, but a moral obligation to help our students process them—and we are two months removed from our classrooms, our school, our second home. We are two months removed from our safe place and safe space.  We are two months removed from what is our why every single day—our students. Finally, these events challenge us to speak up and find new ways to engage our community, engage our students, and actively make known that we stand behind the many who are voiceless and the many who are fighting to have their voices heard.

To our Black and African American students, families, and community members,  we share the sentiment that Dr. Brabrand eloquently said to our staff in a recent communication:   We see you; we believe in you; and we stand with you.

Our Fairfax Pyramid schools value the diversity that makes us special.  Each of our Pyramid’s schools has unique ways they build community, support students, and celebrate differences.  Racism, prejudice, and discrimination have no place in our Pyramid, and we will continue to strive towards inclusivity--we are One Fairfax.  We have a collective responsibility as a community to promote discussions and actions regarding inequities, discrimination, and tolerance.  Here are links to  resources for families to consider that might guide these discussions with your children:
