Fairview Fanfare - June 3

June 3, 2020

Dear Fairview Families,

Our country is experiencing deep pain and turmoil. This is a time of change, and the Fairview staff will continue to play an important role in this evolution. As FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Brabrand shared, “Racism and hate have no place in FCPS. FCPS is a place where we strive for love, inclusiveness, and compassion for all while providing hope for the future.”

At Fairview, we will continue to challenge our norms, practices and structures. We will continue to listen to each other’s stories, to hear the perspectives of our students and their families, and to build relationships that embrace and celebrate our individuality and diversity. We are committed to teaching our young students how to be compassionate and brave individuals who respect and honor differences. We will foster open hearts and open minds.

Our Fairview community is on my heart and mind today and always. If there is anything our school staff, including our counselors, can do to support you or your child, please let me know.  If there’s any insight that you wish to share with me so that Fairview can continue to be an accepting, empowering, and fair place for you and your child, I hope that you will reach out to me.

Together, we will see a better tomorrow. We are FAIRVIEW STRONG.

Sincerely,

Sara Van Aalst

Principal

Fairview is hosting a Vehicle Curbside Pickup of student items on Thursday, June 4 and Friday, June 5. Our schedule is based on Oldest & Only.

What does Oldest & Only mean? Your family needs to only attend ONE pickup date and time which is determined by the grade level of your oldest or only child. (Example: A family has a student in fourth grade and first grade. Your family will come during fourth grade’s assigned time.)

How will the curbside pickup be organized? Please display the first and last name of your student(s) clearly in your front window. Access the school parking lot from Burke Centre Parkway only and follow the directions of staff. We ask that you remain in your vehicle at all times. Staff will deliver items to your car.

During the pickup students may return items that they have borrowed from school and/or their teacher (books-classroom or library, patrol belts, etc.).  We will not be collecting laptops during this time.  If you have borrowed a laptop, there will be a separate return process for these items.

If you do not wish to retrieve your child’s classroom belongings at all, please fill out the following form to let us know. Please note that by filling out this form, your student’s items will not be bagged or available for pick-up. School supplies may be donated or saved for future use.

Digital Citizenship Reminders

As we enter a distance learning environment, it becomes more important than ever to apply practices of good digital citizenship. Students have been learning digital citizenship at Fairview all year, but reminders are always helpful. We strongly encourage adults to actively monitor students' use of technology to help maintain a safe and productive digital community.
Resources to families can be found on the FCPS Digital Citizenship webpage.
