Principal Phillips - Changes, Updates, Clarifications

Dear Students and Families,

Virtual Ceremony

Seniors will need to upload their photo for the virtual ceremony within 24 hours of receiving their graduation package.  For example:  Student picks up graduation package on June 8, they will need to upload their photo by June 9.

Seniors will get their first email from Marching Order on Friday, June 5.  Please be sure to check your fcpsschools.net email account.

Drive thru graduation package pick up

June 8th - June 12th

  • Have the graduate’s First and Last Name printed on a sheet of paper on the dashboard of the car for easy identification by school staff.
  • Families/students will be able to have cars decorated for the event.
  • Families/students must stay in their cars along the curb the entire time.
  • We will have music, the Robinson skydancers, and staff to celebrate with you at the final stop when you get your graduation package.

Photo Op

June 15th - 17th

Things have evolved and we are enhancing our photo opportunity with a few tweaks:

  • The backdrop will be on a small stage outside at Door 1.
  • We will play Pomp and Circumstance during the photo op.
  • Every student looks forward to the moment when they hear their name called during graduation.  We will announce the student’s name as he/she approaches the stage.  The student should bring the printed name card that is attached to their graduation package with them to the photo op.  We will give the name card to the announcer to read.
  • Once on the stage, the student will pose for his/her individual photo, to be taken by Lifetouch photographers.  A family picture can be taken after the student leaves the stage.
  • Please remember to bring your diploma cover to the photo opportunity.

Message from Principal Phillips

Dear Robinson Families,

Over the past several days we have witnessed things that can be difficult for us and our students to process. I am writing to you to let you know that we care about you all very much and are here for anything that you made need or wish to discuss. We have asked teachers to be available for students if they are struggling.

At Robinson, we will continue to respond to inequities with love for all. It is our job to teach our students kindness, love, and acceptance. Our conversations will continue to make us stretch our thinking.  That act will result in a better tomorrow for our youth and our families.

We will always be a safe place for students and staff to grow and learn.  If the pandemic continues, human connection/contact will be vital to our school’s success.  We will need to find a way to stay connected, so everyone feels seen and welcomed.

Student Services sent a message earlier this week, I hope you were able to read that email.  I would like to reiterate some resources they sent:

Please also know that our counselors and clinical team are available to support our students. Their contact information is listed in the website below.

SW Spotlight

According to Mary Jo Davis, our FCPS Coordinator of Social Work Services, social worker’s practice and passion is built on the foundational ethical principles of challenging social injustice, respecting the inherent dignity and worth of the person, and helping people in need to address social problems.  We condemn the violence against African Americans and the systemic racism that is pervasive throughout our society.  As school social workers, our role is more critical than ever to challenge the inequities and to make sure all voices are both heard and respected.

Please review this New York Times article (June 3, 2020) that discusses how to talk to children about racism and offers multiple book ideas and resources for parents.
