As we gear up for our Virtual Showcase of events next week, we also want to take a look back at this school year and remark on how proud we are of each and every one of our Academy students.
We hope this year's graduates will always find themselves as proud and full of big, amazing dreams, just as they are today. And, even though graduation is going to look different for the graduates of 2020, the achievement is still the same. They have put in the same hard work. They have learned and grown so much, and the Academy faculty and staff could not be prouder.
ADVICE FROM FAIRFAX ACADEMY SENIORS:
When asked what advice they would give to returning and new Academy students, our 2020 Academy graduates said:
- Take advantage of the fact you can be a part of this amazing program. Learn and experience as much as you can, because before you know it, you're graduating. And, remember, the Academy is a place you can be yourself! (Alex Morris)
-
Focus on helping yourself grow and not everyone else around you. And, do not compare yourself or your work to others. (Zoe Varacalli)
- Be prepared to have fun and make a lot of friends! (Edina Erkin)
- You should learn Chinese or another language. (Justin)
-
Don’t close yourself off to opportunity. Say yes to as many things as you can! Now (high school/Academy) is the time to try new things! (Ella Newman)
- You should take Chinese. (Anny Chen)
-
Do all the work, make new friends and enjoy your Academy class.(Noa Liuzzi)
-
Its okay to start late, be unsure and still succeed! (Alysea Colon)
- Always do your work. (Carissa Mae)
-
Be open to trying new things and meeting new people and have fun! (Lizzy Maisel)
- Pay attention in class. (Qi Zhang)
-
Don't be afraid to try new things and express yourself.(Madalynn Aguayo)
- Have fun and always stay focused. (Kayla Speights)
- Don't be afraid to take a class even if none of your friends take it, because you will make new friends along the way. (Richard Poole III)
- Don't be afraid to socialize. (Linda Wu)
- Academy classes are unique in that none of the classes are technically required and each student chose to pursue their respective subject, and that creates a great learning environment where all students in the class can help each other participate and find common ground. In general, my advice would be to not only focus on your personal studies but talk to your classmates and use your own unique background to your advantage. (Nicolai Wacht)
-
Take in every moment you can! (Henry Metcalf)
- Do your best and enjoy your time there. (Vanessa Gonzales)
- Enjoy it, and learn a lot! (Paloma Prasad)
-
Take all the opportunities given to you, and actually listen to what your teachers have to say because they know what they are talking about, and are very knowledgeable in their particular field. (Hannah Black)
SENIORS' FAVORITE FAIRFAX ACADEMY MEMORY:
When asked what their favorite memory was of their time at the Academy, our 2020 graduating Academy seniors said:
-
My favorite memory is preforming my very first dance, "One Light" during my sophomore year. (Alex Morris)
- I really loved getting to make kimbap in Mrs. Johnston's Korean class with all of my classmates. (Richard Poole III)
-
Getting to dance and grow with the most amazing people every single day. (Zoe Varacalli)
- Learning new things everyday! (Kevin Chen)
-
Getting to do A Chorus Line with so many amazingly talented people!
Dancing in the May show with all my friends. (Ella Newman)
- I loved getting to make so many new friends outside of my base school! (Edina Erkin)
-
The Academy did 'A Chorus Line' for the annual musical and invited all Academy students from dance and theatre to participate. It was very fun! (James 'Blu' Whitfield)
-
The best memory I have from the Academy would be playing the part of Clara in The Nutcracker and attending student panels as an Academy Ambassador. (Alysea Colon)
- Getting to meet all of the students from different schools! (Linda Wu)
- I just really loved my Chinese class! (Anny Chen)
-
Meeting new people through my dance class! (Lizzy Maisel)
-
My favorite memory is the dance benefit concert for Multiple Sclerosis we did this year! (Madalynn Aguayo)
-
Meeting so many new friends and having fun in Dance class. (Kayla Speights)
- I just really liked being in my Academy class and learning a new language! (Carissa Mae)
- I really don't have one specific single-time memory, but Mrs. Johnston was the first teacher to ever offer food or drinks to students who may have missed lunch from taking the bus, or who were tired at the end of the day. Being healthy and alert to make it through my long class greatly contributed to my success in my Korean class throughout my years at Fairfax Academy. (Nicolai Wacht)
-
Waking up every morning to sing with musical theatre students in my class! (Henry Metcalf)
-
Performing in 'A Chorus Line'. (Hannah Black)
- I loved having some of Mrs. Johnston's Korean food! I also loved dancing and having so much fun in my dance class too! (Vanessa Gonzalez)
- ALL OF IT! (Paloma Prasad)
