GritGraceGoals

Dear Families,

We hope that you had a wonderful extended weekend and Memorial Day with your loved ones. With three weeks left in our school year, we are reminded that summer is almost here, and yet we still have much to do to continue and celebrate the learning and achievement of our students.

As decisions are made that associate with promotion and graduation ceremonies, principals will be reaching out to finalize specific details with our individual communities. Much thought and consideration were included in our decision-making to ensure that we treat these as special occasions, commensurate with the pomp and circumstance you are accustomed to, albeit virtually. In addition, we look forward to finishing the year strong, and this means we will remain consistent with our expectations for Distance Learning until the last day of school.

As you aware, while we are committed to our present school year, we are also busily planning and refining our goals for next year. As soon as we have additional information about our return to school in the fall, we will proceed, as a pyramid, to discuss our collective expectations and communicate these with you. Thank you for being patient. We know that sometimes it seems impossible to persevere in these uncertain times, and we hope you know that we will remain your constant system of support, as school leaders and as partners in your children’s education.

Warmly,

Greg Hood, Madison High School

Tom Lundy, Cedar Lane School

Catherine Cipperly, Thoreau Middle School

Michelle Makrigiorgos, Louise Archer Elementary School

Liz Calvert, Marshall Road Elementary School

John Carmichael, Vienna Elementary School

Katie Le, Cunningham Park Elementary School

Teresa Khuluki, Wolftrap Elementary School

Jennifer Hertzberg, Flint Hill Elementary School

6th grade

6th Grade Promotion

To honor our 6th graders this year, our teachers and administration will be hosting a virtual promotion ceremony on June 10th, at 9:30 am. The link will be shared in advance with our 6th grade families.

In addition, please be on the lookout for more information regarding a celebratory sign that will be displayed in the front of our school. We are so proud of our students who will be moving on to middle school next year!

Distribution of Student Materials: May 29th

A-M

The opportunity to pick up student personal belongings will be available for DRIVE-THRU SERVICE ONLY on Friday, May 29th. (*A rain date will be announced on Thursday if inclement weather is anticipated.) Items have been packed and labeled with your child’s name. You may also use this as an opportunity to return borrowed school items such as library books, patrol belts, classroom books, instruments, and other miscellaneous materials. Please keep in mind that our aim is to move through this pick-up process as quickly as possible and to keep the line moving. Together, we can make this happen if you adhere to the pick-up schedule located on the gym and cafeteria diagram pictured above (A-M only) and linked below (A-M and N-Z).

For everyone’s safety, please follow these DRIVE-THRU instructions:

  1. Last names beginning with letters A-M will follow these directions and times for pick up near the GYM.
  2. Last names beginning with letters N-Z will follow these directions and times for pick up near the CAFETERIA.
  3. Please do not exit your car.
  4. Place a paper sign with your child’s full name on a large piece of paper, and display it on your window as you drive up to the designated pick-up location. Please write in big, black, bold letters. If you have multiple children, listing at least two children will suffice. While it is not common, we do have students with the same names, and we want to make sure you receive the correct belongings.
  5. You will drive up to the “Parent Pick-up" sign.
  6. A staff member will walk your child’s belongings to your car. From inside your car, please open the back window or trunk. Staff will place the bag(s) in your car.
  7. Return items to the designated area listed on the diagram.

Thank you for your cooperation! If you are unable to pick up items on Friday, May 29th, we will hold items until the last day of school for students, June 11th. Please complete this form if you require (out-of-town) us to hold onto your child's belongings for pick-up at a later date.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration is upon us! We welcome parents of rising kindergarten students to register their child at their earliest convenience. This helps us get acquainted with our new students and allows us to have our numbers so we can best staff our kindergarten classrooms. Please don't hesitate to share this information with a neighbor, friend, or colleague who lives within our boundaries. We want to ensure we get students registered as early as possible!

Thank you to our families who have so generously contributed to those in need.
