It seems hard to believe this is Memorial Day weekend. This is certainly not the beginning of summer that we all imagined. Due to the holiday, there will be no live lessons on Monday.

If your family is moving our of our boundary or leaving the area prior to the end of the school year, please contact Assistant Principal Jennie Skerker (jpskerker@fcps.edu  to coordinate pick up of your child's materials.

Teachers have been working hard to pack students’ belongings. Please plan to pick up your child’s items based on last name on the following dates:

Tuesday, June 2- Last names A-G

Wednesday, June 3 – Last names H-Q

Thursday, June 4 – Last names R-Z

To pick up belongings, please drive through the bus loop on the assigned date between 9 AM and 5 PM. No walk-ups please; vehicles only. Please remain in your car the entire time and a staff member will bring the bagged items to your car. A staff member will place the bag(s) in the trunk of your vehicle. Masks are appreciated.

If your child needs to return an instrument to the school, library books, or other items, we can accept these items during the pick-up. Technology for distance learning does not need to be returned at this time.

Additionally, the Lost and Found will be available in the Kiss and Ride parking lot on these days. Please adhere to social distancing protocol.

Thank you in advance for your patience as this is the first time we have ever done something like this. If you have any questions, please contact Jennie Skerker at jpskerker@fcps.edu.

If you need to retrieve medications from the clinic, please contact Assistant Principal Hallie Dillon (hmdillon@fcps.edu) to coordinate a time for pick up.

I hope you and your family continue to be safe and healthy. Please continue to  wash your hands, practice social distancing, and have a great weekend.

Take good care,

Kathy

As we approach the end of the school year, there are always bittersweet moments as different staff members make decisions to leave Union Mill. I want to share a letter that was shared with staff last evening from our Assistant Principal Hallie Dillon:

Dear Union Mill,

I wanted to share with you that I will be leaving Union Mill at the end of this school year as I have decided to retire. For six years, I have helped guide and support Union Mill staff, students and families and have seen amazing growth. I have watched children form friendships and grow in positive ways and I have watched you do the same. I have observed eager learners arrive to school each day with a smile on their face and leave school at the end of the day with that same smile still in place and I’m not just talking students here. 😊 And, I have observed you being there for one another while keeping the focus on students each and every day.

Union Mill is a wonderful and special school and these past six years have allowed me to learn and grow professionally. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with Union Mill students, staff, and parents. I have truly enjoyed getting to know you, the children, and families.

I take with me many fond memories as I continue my journey. I wish you many happy days at Union Mill Elementary School and remind you to never lose sight of your hopes and dreams.

May each new day bring a feeling of excitement, a sense of joy, a smile to your face and someone else’s, a sense of peace and happiness, and a wonderful sense of humor.

With Warm Regards and Best Wishes,

Hallie

Parent Input Invited

Even though we don't know exactly how the pandemic will play out and what the future holds for the fall, we are still planning for next school year. One of the important things we do to get ready for the next school year is class placements. The staff at Union Mill Elementary works hard to place students in an optimal learning situation each year. If you would like to share information that would help us make those decisions, please click on this link. The deadline for submitting information is Friday, May 22.

Library Book Drop-Off

Ms. Schroder was able to collect 4 carts of library books on Friday. Ms. Schroder will continue to collect Union Mill library books at the front of the school each Friday from 9:00 - 11:00 am. Please place the books on the carts under the school overhang. The books are isolated for a week before they are processed in any way. Thank you for helping us return our books for future students to read!
