Donations are Appreciated to Support Families in our Community
So many of our community families have been impacted during this difficult time. Please take a moment and look at the items that are being requested for some of our Hunters Woods families. Anything you are able to donate would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Pick Up of Student Belongings
Item pickup for students in grades Head Start, K,1,2,3,4 and 5 is scheduled for next Friday, May 29th. A detailed letter will be sent to parents/guardians by email via our e-notify system by Monday with the time slot assigned for your child’s teacher. If you have multiple students at HWES, we will be consolidating all of your children’s belongings with your oldest child.
Sixth grade item pick-up is scheduled for Thursday, June 11th. More information on this is forthcoming.
This pick-up is optional. If you prefer not to pick up your child’s items at this time, please fill out this google form and we will hold on to their belongings. Should you have a conflict with the scheduled date, there will be more information in the e-notify letter about making other arrangements.
Grades K-2 are Flipping to Flipgrid for Wonderfest!
Wonderfest is a special opportunity for our scientists in Grades K-2 to explore a topic that they wonder about. Students complete the sentence, I Wonder… then search for answers, and share findings with the HWES community through a group Flipgrid. We are excited to see what your students are interested in!
To register, please visit: https://tinyurl.com/wonderfest2020
Details will be sent to parents/guardians via email by K-2 classroom teachers.
Yearbooks Available for Purchase
|
- The Hunters Woods yearbook is now available for purchase online only. Please click here and use 0037427YB as the online access code.
- The cost is $15 for a softcover yearbook and $20 for a hardcover yearbook. (Discounted from the 2019 pricing!)
-
The deadline to place online orders is Saturday, June 6th. Given the current environment, you have the option to have the yearbook shipped directly to your home ($ 8.50 shipping fee) or to have it delivered to the school for free. (Details regarding distribution of yearbooks from the school will be made available once their arrival date has been determined and will be done following the FCPS COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.)
- As with many non-essential businesses around the country, Barksdale is currently closed and do not know when they will be allowed to re-open for production. Once we have an expected publishing/delivery date from them, we will be sure to pass it along.
- If you have any questions, please contact Chunae Zoh at chunae@gmail.com or Jo Wechselblatt at jewechselbla@fcps.edu.
Student Registration for 2020-2021
If you have a rising kindergartener or a student who will be new to HWES in Grades 1-6, we would like to do a preliminary registration now.
To register your child for school, please email Pattie Ono, school registrar, at pono@fcps.edu with “Registration” in the subject line. Please fill out the registration packet online, save it to your device, and attach it to the email to send back to us. If you are not able to do that, please email Mrs. Ono a time you would be available for a phone interview. After we receive your email, we will reach out with any additional questions. If you have any questions or concerns about registration, please email Mrs. Ono.
Additional information may be found on our HWES homepage or by clicking here,
When the office re-opens, we will ask you to come to the school to present the necessary documentation for registration (child’s original birth certificate, physical and immunizations, enrolling parent’s ID, lease/deed to your home). This will finalize your child’s registration.
The SLHS Food Pantry Welcomes Your Donations
Thank you to the South Lakes community for continuing to provide much needed food and monetary donations to the SLHS PTSA Food Pantry. Recently, 4/30, we were able to support 73 families during distribution. We are seeing an increasing need for assistance each week. As the current conditions continue, including a very challenging food supply chain, we are hopeful that our amazing community will continue to make contributions.
The pantry is in great need of the following: pasta, pasta sauce, tomatoes/sauce, dried beans, rice, canned meat and veggies, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, crackers, applesauce/fruit, cooking oil, feminine products, toiletries, soap and deodorant.
You can ship items directly to: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church @ 1133 Reston Avenue, Herndon, VA 20170 or drop off (no-contact) on Mondays 2-4 and Wednesdays 10-noon. Also see the SLHS PTSA Food Pantry Webpage or FaceBook page for updates and information.

Stay-at-Home Chalk Art
This week's theme of 'Family Time' illustrated above
Presented by Public Art Reston, Reston Community Center, Reston Town Center, and the Reston Association
Public Art Reston is providing a fun way, during the month of May, to safely tap into these free-roaming talents with a Stay-at-Home Chalk Art virtual event.
Next week's theme (May 25 - May 31): On Memorial Day, we celebrate military heroes. Draw your favorite hero(s).
Please go to the Public Art Reston/Stay-at-Home Chalk site for details and guidelines. You may take pictures of your chalk creations and the guidelines will tell you how to send them to Public Art Reston so they may share them!
Virtual Art Gallery
HWES students continue to submit their awesome artwork to Mrs. Morris for display in our Virtual Art Gallery. We love seeing these beautiful and creative pieces! If your child(ren) would like to participate, please send their artwork to NRMorris@fcps.edu along with the parent or guardian's permission to publish the work.
