We Are Robinson!'20

Principal Phillips - Message to the Class of 2020

When I started this year as your new principal, I could have never imagined we would be ending our year this way. Things have drastically changed and we are all disappointed that we could not experience the final senior events, such as prom and graduation, in traditional Robinson fashion. We were all looking forward to experiencing spring events such as senior nights, final performances and pep rallies, and I am very sad that we could not be together during the final months of your senior year.

Since schools closed in March, we have been working on many plans and details regarding seniors and end of year celebrations. If you have questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, Mrs. Wong, or Mr. Clements.

Senior Dues

Our senior fees have been $100 or $110 (based on when you paid) and were intended to cover the costs associated with the senior year, including our graduation venue at Eagle Bank Arena. This year, our senior fees will be $60 and will include your cap and gown, tassel, diploma, diploma cover, programs, cords, seals, medals, and a senior keepsake.  We hosted 2 senior food celebrations (ice cream and doughnuts) and a Class of 2020 t-shirt was given to each senior.

All seniors that have paid their fee will receive a refund for the additional amount.  If you have not yet paid your senior fees, please pay the $60 through MySchoolBucks as soon as possible.

If you are having any financial difficulty, please contact Mr. Daniel Clements, senior class administrator.

Senior Distribution and Collection

The last day of synchronous classes for seniors will be Thursday, May 28.  Beginning on June 1, we will be arranging time slots for seniors to come to school to return your laptop and other school items (textbooks, calculators, etc.) as well as pick up your graduation package.  This package will include your diploma, cap and gown, tassel, graduation programs, and a small keepsake.  Additional items may be included for specific students based on their affiliation with a school club or group.  The official graduation pick up will be the week of June 8.

Additional information with more details will be shared as soon as we have finalized the plans.

Unfortunately, the plant that produces our yearbook was not operable for several weeks and our yearbooks will not be delivered until after June 20.  We will set up a separate yearbook distribution once they arrive.

Graduation

I sincerely appreciate and understand the interest and overwhelming sentiment of our students, parents, and schools to have a face to face graduation opportunity for the Class of 2020. Based on data from the Fairfax County Health Department, a summer in-person ceremony poses too many health risks and too much uncertainty with regard to social distancing requirements and restrictions on large gatherings that could still be in effect at that time.

Last week, our School Board approved our work to plan two recognition and celebration events for our seniors in June or July.  We also hope to plan a face to face graduation later this fall.  These summer events include a senior celebration video and an individual graduate recognition and photo opportunity.

We are still working on many details of these plans and more information will be shared soon.

Please know that I share your disappointment about the way this school year has ended.  As the graduating Class of 2020, you will forever hold a very special place in my heart. I look forward to recognizing and celebrating with you over the next several months. I hope that you will participate in these opportunities and give me, along with members of our staff, an opportunity to celebrate you!

Art Competition

Submissions must be received by TODAY, May 22nd

Each year, Members of Congress hold an Art Competition for students in grades 9 – 12.  This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Congressman Gerry Connolly is hosting a virtual art competition which will allow students to submit their artwork electronically.  We think that this is a great opportunity for our local students to participate.

Please see the below link which will provide information on how to submit your entry. .

NPR’s Isle Of Calm: Stream 6 Hours Of Soothing Music (March 13, 2020)

These are anxious times, and many of the comforts, routines and distractions that make daily life easier — sports, church services, musical theater, late-night social gatherings, you name it — are being scaled back or canceled due to fears about the spread of coronavirus. So many of us are feeling the stress of uncertainty and, in many cases, isolation.

NPR Music's staff is no different. So when someone asked us to list the songs we turn to when we need calm, a huge playlist poured out. Encompassing classical, folk, jazz, ambient, pop, blues, soul, hip-hop, indie-rock and more, the block of music we're calling "Isle of Calm" is there to help settle your jangled nerves, slow your heart rate and string up a little hammock for your soul. We hope you enjoy it!
