TJHSST Class of 2024 Mid-May Update

Course Selection & Summer School Update

Thank you to all of the students and families for your work with the counselors to get course selections finalized and into the system so that we can begin the process of building the school’s master schedule for the 2020-21 school year. Course verification emails were sent to the enrolling parents of each student on May 2, 2020.

A News You Choose was sent to the TJ community last night that provided everyone with a summary of our plans for Summer School this Summer. You can find this message to the community here:

https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/VAEDUFCPS/bulletins/28a759e

Please note that the ONLY course that incoming 9th grade students can take with TJHSST this Summer will be Research Statistics 1 and that RS1 has a prerequisite of Algebra 2. Only students CURRENTLY enrolled in and scheduled to complete Algebra 2 this Spring will be approved to take Research Statistics 1. For those families committed to engaging in some sort of academic program this Summer, we are recommending that incoming 9th graders take advantage of some of the Skills Builders and Refreshers that TJ will be offering FREE OF CHARGE. More information and details of these opportunities will be coming soon. If students are still interested in taking a course for credit, while we are not encouraging it, Economics and Personal Finance is available through the FCPS Online Campus Summer Program.

Please remember that Summer School is in no way expected or required to attend TJHSST. Students can earn all of the diploma requirements necessary to graduate and pursue four years of any elective without needing to take Summer School whatsoever. More information about this can be found on the Class of 2024 Frequently asked Questions, the Curricular Resources, or you can speak with your Transition Counselor as well.

Big Sibs

See below for a message from our Big Sibs Program. The Big Sibs program is coordinated by our Student Government Association and is sponsored by our SGA Sponsors, Dr. Phillips and Dr. Stickler.

Dear Rising Freshmen and Parents,

The Big Sibs Coordinators would like to extend a warm TJ welcome to you all.  For those who do not know, the Big Sibs program at Jefferson is designed to ease the transition for freshmen by providing every incoming freshman with a “Big Sib” who is a current TJ student. The Big Sib will also be a valuable resource for asking questions and getting more information about academics, sports, and activities at TJ. Additionally, the Big Sib has the responsibility of aiding and maintaining contact with the “Little Sib” throughout the whole year whether it is through emails, phone calls, or at Big Sibs-sponsored events.

At the beginning of the school year, we invite the incoming Freshmen to join their Big Sibs on Orientation Day to get to know each other. There will be pizza, drinks, and tours with other Big Sibs and students. Throughout the school year, there will also be quarterly events which will include donuts, cookies, and an ice cream social!

In order to find the best Big Sib match for you, we ask each incoming freshmen to take a few minutes to register for the program by filling out a short form online. The form online contains questions such as preferred gender of Big Sib and academic and extracurricular interests. The matches are made based on compatibility gathered from the responses to this online form. Please fill out this form by July 10, 2020.

Here is the link for the LittleSibs Registration Form: https://forms.gle/7ZwHSoN7DViHxuUGA

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email tjbigsibs@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you in August!

Sincerely,

Sophia Cheng, Claire Williams, Likhitha Addagatla, Grace Tang, Sarah Wang, Grishma Baruah
