Annandale Community Insider - May 10

Annandale Community:

Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you for showing your support during Teacher Appreciation Week! In addition to the many personal messages you wrote that were shared with staff, our students also showed their appreciation of their teachers by making a video. Check it out! Link: Student Teacher Appreciation Video.

Special thanks to our PTSA who conducted two separate raffles for our staff and awarded gift cards to the winners. Check out the videos announcing the winners. Link: “Photo with the Banner” raffle video and "All Teachers" raffle video

As we continue in distance learning at Annandale, we are encouraged to see the high levels of engagement and support happening in both the synchronous and asynchronous learning. We recognize that this time has required all of us - educators, students and families alike- to learn new skills, mindsets and habits. Thank you for your continued partnership in this work; I know it is not easy for any of us. I have great confidence in the knowledge that Annandale is preparing thoughtfully for what students will need as they transition into the next grade level, and our role will be to provide the support each student needs to be successful in that transition.

Thank you for everything you do to support our students, teachers and staff.  As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Grading Update

4th Quarter Grading Update - Middle school and high school students will be assigned a “no mark” for the fourth quarter, with assignments submitted being allowed to positively influence the student’s overall grade for the year based on mastery of learning concepts, in accordance with FCPS grading policy. Teachers will begin entering fourth quarter assignments into gradebooks beginning the week of May 4. Assignment “marks” will be entered into the gradebook and will be: Proficient, Attempted, Not Attempted.

Senior Yard Signs

Do you have a senior? Know a senior? Or just want to celebrate the Class of 2020? Please consider purchasing a yard sign to congratulate a graduate. Our hope is that as life resumes to normal and we begin to move about Annandale again, seniors and their families will see the signs and know that they are not only celebrated, but supported by our community during a most unusual senior year.

Signs can be purchased for $15 here and will be delivered to your yard as soon as we are able to in a safe manner adhering to the social distancing requirements. All funds raised through the sign sales will help to fund the four AHS PTSA Scholarships.

Distance Learning - Access

Student Portal - The AHS Student Portal is the entry point for Distance Learning for Annandale students. They will then be taken to the Annandale Distance Learning Hub. From this hub they will click on their courses to see their Course Homepages. Once students select their course, they will be taken to a homepage. On this home page will be the link for the weekly asynchronous learning lesson grid. There will also be information regarding synchronous learning on Tuesday and Thursday as well as teacher contact information for individual support.

Personalized Student Support

After having several students request follow-up phone calls to make sure they are staying on task and completing assignments, Stacie Shaffer, school counselor, will be offering a virtual study hall to assist students with accountability. The study hall would take place on asynchronous days via Google Meet.

If your student needs additional support, please offer them this opportunity and have them contact Ms. Shaffer at SLShaffer@fcps.edu. Ask them to include their cell phone number in this email. Questions contact Stacie Shaffer at SLShaffer@fcps.edu.
