HORNET HAPPENINGS

May 9, 2020

Hello May

Hello Halley Families!

Thank you for all the kind messages and gestures of gratitude toward our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. They love the work they do and strive to provide the best for all students.  Your messages warmed our hearts!   We also send a special thank you to our marvelous PTO.  The Amazon gift cards were very much appreciated by Halley teachers!

Starting the week of May 11th, we will be offering “Office Hours” on Mondays from 9 – 11 and Wednesdays from 2 – 3.   If you have inquiries, or need support and want to touch base quickly, please call 703-551-5700 or email Mary King at MLKing@fcps.edu.  We will respond and follow-up as quickly as we can!

Blessings, Mrs. Peerman, Ms. Johnson and Dr. Simpkins

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day to our Halley Moms

We wish you a lovely Mother's Day and hope your children will spoil you with the love, hugs and homemade cards you deserve. You have earned special recognition this year!

Dreambox Math is back at Halley!

We are pleased and excited to offer Dreambox math available now

through June 30, 2020 for all Halley students.

Dreambox is a K-8 digital math program that independent studies have found to raise student achievement and better prepare children for future successes. If you have a home account, Dreambox does not have capacity to merge your home account with our school account. Use whichever account you desire. Through the school account, teachers may assign certain focus areas and lessons for students to use. These assignments will be not be available through a home paid subscription or free home trial. Please decide which account option is best for your family. We are pleased to be able to bring Dreambox to all our students!

LOGGING IN USING OUR SIGN-ON PORTAL (CLEVER)

  1. Open an internet browser on your student's computer, laptop, or tablet. Chrome works best.
  2. Navigate to Halley's Student Links page on our website and click the DreamBox icon
  3. Log in using your student's regular school network account (Student ID and PW). The same login your child uses in order to access Blackboard or an FCPS laptop.
  4. The teachers have also added the Dreambox login portal to their Blackboard and/or Google Classroom courses. Find the Dreambox button inside the classroom course and login using this additional access point. Check with your child’s teacher if you cannot find the link in the blackboard course or Google Classroom.

LOGGING IN USING A SINGLE SIGN-ON PORTAL for iPad/Tablet.

  1. Make sure that the DreamBox Math app is downloaded.
  2. Open your browser app.
  3. Navigate to your school portal and log in using your Single Sign-On information either on the Halley website or through the Blackboard course access portal.
  4. Select the DreamBox Learning icon in order to launch the DreamBox app.
  5. The DreamBox Math app will open with the student automatically logged in. Note: You do NOT need the school code (qk88/d3pa) if you login correctly using the Halley website link, the Blackboard connected portal, or the link in your child’s Google Classroom.

Reading Tidbit

Mrs. Rzucidlo’s Math Tidbit for the week!

Halley’s marvelous mathematicians love math mysteries!

Try these activities with your mathematician this week.

Estimation is an important math skill. It helps mathematicians determine the reasonableness of their answer. Estimation empowers students to use mental math and is a skill used in the real-world every day. We estimate with money, time, distances, and even while we are cooking dinner. Enjoy these activities that build on the important estimation skill.
