McNair News & Announcements
Hello McNair Families,
As many of you know, this week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Thank you for taking the time to either send your child’s teacher an email to thank them or have your child do so. We also appreciate the kind messages that some parents have posted for teachers on the McNair Elementary Facebook page.
On behalf of the entire McNair staff, we would like to thank our wonderful PTA for the generous Amazon gift card present for Teacher Appreciation Week! We are very grateful to be part of a school community that takes the time to recognize the hard work every member of it contributes to our success and, more importantly, the success of our Mustangs!
Below are a few important announcements:
It’s Official-Our New School Has a Name!
In case you have not heard, Fairfax County Public Schools’ School Board recently voted to name our new school, McNair Upper Elementary School! Below is the official news release:
The Fairfax County School Board has voted to name the new elementary school on the existing McNair Elementary School campus McNair Upper Elementary School. McNair Upper, which was constructed to provide capacity relief for the existing McNair Elementary School, is expected to open in August and will serve students in grades 3-6. The existing building will serve students in grades preK-2 and be called McNair Elementary School.
Melissa Goddin will serve as the principal of McNair Upper Elementary School, and Merrell Dade will serve as the principal of McNair Elementary School.
In accordance with FCPS Regulation 8170.8, a one-month period of public comment was held beginning January 29, and a community meeting was held on February 19 to solicit name suggestions from the community. Community members also had the opportunity to submit recommendations and feedback via an email link. A public hearing was held on February 20 and, after compiling feedback from stakeholders, Superintendent Scott S. Brabrand recommended on March 5 that the School Board name the new facility McNair Upper Elementary School, the most frequently suggested name by stakeholders. The recommended name aligns with other FCPS paired schools, such as Fort Belvoir Upper and Bailey’s Upper.
School Yearbooks
Barksdale, the photography company we contracted this year to do our school pictures and yearbook, is in the process of making a digital yearbook available for families to purchase. The cost will be $8.00 for it; with you paying the company directly. Once ordering information is shared with us, we will be sure to pass this information along to McNair families.
Field Trip Reimbursements
All field trip refund requests must be received no later than today, Friday, May 8th, in order to receive a reimbursement. If we do not receive your written request by this date, we will assume that you would like to donate the funds to McNair Elementary School in order to maintain our STEAM Lab program at both McNair school campuses. If you need an additional copy of the email and reimbursement form that was fanned out to families on Monday, April 27th, please email Ms. Goddin at MMGoddin@fcps.edu.
Have a nice weekend!
Ms. Dade & Ms. Goddin
