This Week at Langley

Teacher Appreciation Week:  May 4 – May 8

We want to celebrate our wonderful faculty and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week and let them know how valued and appreciated they are in Saxon Country!

We would love for students and families to send emails and notes to each teacher next week, letting them know we support them and their time and effort as they navigate working and learning from home.

Resilience Week: May 3rd - 9th

This year, Virginia celebrates its first annual Resilience Week beginning May 3rd.  Together, we focus on building our ability to adapt and “bounce forward” through tough times.  We lean into the support we receive from one another and look for opportunities to give it away.  This strengthens our collective resilience, leaving us stronger than ever. From Sanctuary Sunday all the way to Self-Care Saturday, find more ideas here:

AP Information

We need to ensure that students are receiving emails/information from the College Board related to AP Exams.  College Board has sent us data that identifies 151 students at Langley that have NOT responded to emails College Board has sent in regards to taking the AP Exam.  Therefore they are asking that ALL AP students review the information below as well as complete the steps in pages 1 and 2 of the attachment.  If you have any questions please let me know.

Thank you!

Jennifer Baldesare JLBaldesare@fcps.edu

This flyer provides step-by-step instructions for students to update their email accounts on file with the College Board. In the next two weeks, we will be sending critical information, including an AP Exam demo and their AP Exam e-tickets, to the email accounts we have on file for students registered to take an AP Exam.

The AP Exam Demo will be available the week of May 4. Completing this demo is a critical step for students. We recommend students practice submissions through the exam demo, which will give students a click-through of the different ways to submit their responses to this year’s AP Exams. The demo will be generic across subjects, and not a practice exam. A video walk-though of the world language experience will also be available.

Students will receive their e-ticket by email two days before they test. On exam day, they’ll need this e-ticket to check in to their exam. Students will get a unique ticket for each exam they’re registered for. They can also access their e-ticket on My AP (myap.collegeboard.org).

Additionally, here are new resources available to help guide your schools and students through the test day experience:

  •  2020 AP Testing Guide. The guide, designed for educators to walk through with their students, provides information about:
    • The AP Exam E-Ticket
    • Five Steps to Take Before Test Day
    • Understanding the Test Day Experience
    • Exam Scores, Credit and Placement
  • 2020 AP Exam Day Checklist. Teachers should have their students to complete this checklist for each exam they take and keep it next to them while testing.

Explainer VideosNew videos are available to give students quick, easily accessible information about their test-day experience, what they need to do to prepare, support from Higher Ed institutions, an exam walkthrough, and more. Explore the playlist

Thank you to all seniors who have submitted their videos announcing their plans for next year! We want to make sure we include and honor all seniors in this opportunity so we have extended the submission deadline to May 8th!

Seniors, please be sure to send your 5-15 second video announcing your plans for next year to saxonbroadcast@gmail.com!

Social worker and psychologist:   Langley’s social worker Catherine Kennedy and psychologist Anna Davis recently created a Google classroom where Saxons can access stress management resources . They’ve posted activities and several links. Students can assess the classroom from their FCPS Gmail accounts here , and using code buh6s76 . Students also can set up individual appointments with either staff member from their FCPS Gmail using this link .

Parents can set up phone appointments as well, either for themselves or their student, using this FCPS form . The parent consultations are intended to help parents support their student's emotional well-being, and the student consultations are intended to help students having a hard time with anxiety, mood, behavior, or peer or family interactions. (In an emergency, please call 911 or access mental health support online ).

Parents and students also can email Ms. Davis at adavis3@fcps.edu and Ms. Kennedy at cskennedy@fcps.edu .

Looking Forward to Sunnier Days We're planning to landscape Langley's main courtyard as soon as logistically possible. Just how gorgeous and green it will be depends upon how many donations are made. To help, donate a leaf to the Langley Legacy Tree, the beautiful wall sculpture that is “growing” in the Langley Lobby.  Another 40+ leaves and several birds were added to the tree right before the school closed.

Leaves make wonderful graduation gifts! About 100 of our seniors/soon-to-be grads already have a leaf inscribed in their honor. Leaves are also a great way to pay tribute to teachers, family and friends. Giving levels are copper leaf ($50), silver leaf ($100), gold leaf ($200), and acorn or bird ($500). With a $1,000+ donation, your family's name is included on the Courtyard Benefactor Plaque, which will be installed next to the Tree.

Click on ptsalangley.org to donate your tree leaves/acorns/birds.
