Waples Mill Updates 5/1

Good Afternoon Waples Mill Families,

We hope you are all doing well.  It was wonderful seeing so many students during the live sessions this week!  Here are this week's updates:

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8!

Each May we celebrate our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, which is May 4th through May 8th this year. The Waples Mill staff have continued to work hard to connect with families and support students during distance learning. Please help us celebrate our wonderful Waples Mill Elementary staff next week!

MONDAY, May 4th: Students write an email note to say thank you to your teachers or send an e-card! Parents, you can write a note to say thanks as well if you would like. Free teacher appreciation cards can be found online at Hallmark and Greetings Island.

TUESDAY, May 5th: Wear your Waples Mill spirit wear or black and gold colors during your live sessions with your teachers to show your teachers how much you care.

In addition, if you so choose, take a photo of yourself or of a picture you have made to thank all of our wonderful teachers and staff at Waples Mill. Your photos will be compiled into a slideshow that will be presented to staff later in the week. Some possible ideas: take a photo of your smiling self, take a photo of yourself holding a sign that says “Thank you!”, “Thank you teachers and staff!” or “Thank you Waples Mill staff!”, or take a photo of a drawing/sign you have made to say thank you. Please email your photos to Joan Olinger at jcolinger@fcps.edu no later than Wednesday, May 6th.

WEDNESDAY, May 6th: Create a video message and email it to your teacher.  Here are some ideas of what you might say:

I love being in your class because…

My favorite memory this year was…

You taught me. . .

You always say. . .

Thank you for. . .

THURSDAY, May 7th: Let’s give our teachers a virtual bouquet of flowers! Take a photo of a pretty flower or take a photo of a drawing you have made of a flower and email your photos to your teachers.  This virtual bouquet is sure to make their day!

Yearbook News from the Waples Mill PTA

Please see below for a message from the Waples Mill PTA regarding our 2019-2020 yearbook:

We are looking into ways that we can continue to support our WMES Staff, Students and Community during these extraordinary times.  One such way is to ensure that we complete and deliver a yearbook for the 2019-2020 school year.  In addition to the classroom sections, we are including three new sections – Who’s that Beautiful Baby? (baby photos of our graduating 6th graders), Time with Family (photos of your family at home) and Show Your Eagle Spirit (photos of your student in WMES spirit wear, black & gold or eagle gear).  To do so, we NEED YOUR HELP!  Your photos to be more precise.  Please EMAIL any classroom or class event photos you may have from earlier in the year, your 6th grader’s baby photo, photos of what you/your students have been doing these past few weeks and photos of your student in WMES spirit wear, black & gold or eagle gear to your student’s teacher ASAP.  With your help, we can deliver a wonderful memento that your student will cherish for years to come.
