Annandale Community Insider - April 26

Annandale Community:

Thank you for your continued partnership and feedback as we have navigated the transition to distance learning. It was great to see many of you at our recent PTSA Meeting this past Tuesday.

We are proud of the many ways Annandale students have continued in their learning through the lessons grids teachers have prepared. We are looking forward to expanding and enhancing this work in our synchronous learning sessions beginning on Tuesday this week. Annandale teachers are looking forward to connecting with students per the bell schedule shared below.

Synchronous sessions provide an important opportunity to build community, strengthen relationships and provide meaningful support, feedback and collaboration. Teachers will be hosting the live sessions on Google Meet, and students will need to be logged into their FCPS Google account to be able to access them. Students should access their Google Classroom for information about how to join their live sessions. As always, teachers and Annandale staff are available via email to answer any questions.

Finally, I need your help! Next week (May 4-8) is Teacher Appreciation Week. Annandale High School has some of the kindest, most dedicated teachers and I want to let them know how much they are valued. We would love for our students, families and community members to complete this Google Form to share some words and stories about Annandale teachers. With the feedback we receive, we will be creating a collage to surprise our teachers throughout the week.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Grading Update

3rd Quarter Grading Update - Quarter Extended - Per FCPS grading policy during COVID-19 closures, no student work assigned after March 13 will be graded, at the recommendation of VDOE. However, work assigned prior to March 13 will still be accepted up until Friday, May 1 in order to be applied in the calculation of students’ third quarter grades. Note: ParentVUE/StudentVUE access will be turned off to allow for teachers to enter grades from Friday, May 1 through Friday, May 8. Grades will be available in ParentVUE/StudentVUE on Saturday, May 9. 3rd quarter report cards will be mailed later that week.

4th Quarter Grading Update - Middle school and high school students will be assigned a “no mark” for the fourth quarter, with assignments submitted being allowed to positively influence the student’s overall grade for the year based on mastery of learning concepts, in accordance with FCPS grading policy. Teachers will begin entering fourth quarter assignments into gradebooks beginning the week of May 4. Assignment “marks” will be entered into the gradebook and will be: Proficient, Attempted, Not Attempted.

Senior Yard Signs

Do you have a senior? Know a senior? Or just want to celebrate the Class of 2020? Please consider purchasing a yard sign to congratulate a graduate. Our hope is that as life resumes to normal and we begin to move about Annandale again, seniors and their families will see the signs and know that they are not only celebrated, but supported by our community during a most unusual senior year.

Signs can be purchased for $15 here and will be delivered to your yard as soon as we are able to in a safe manner adhering to the social distancing requirements. All funds raised through the sign sales will help to fund the four AHS PTSA Scholarships.
