Graduation Prep Update for Class of 2020 Parents

Graduation Preparation Update for Class of 2020

Dear TJHSST Class of 2020 Families:

It's hard to believe the last day for seniors is just over a month away. We look forward to celebrating our Class of 2020, blending time-honored TJHSST traditions with new ideas that reflect our unique circumstances.

We are sharing a few graduation preparation updates that were posted to seniors today in their Class of 2020 Google Classroom message board.

FCPS leadership continues to host a committee that is discussing high school graduations. The conversations have included options for virtual and in-person graduations, along with celebrations, dependent on the statewide Stay at Home order for Virginia which is currently in place until June 10. We anticipate we’ll have more information in a couple weeks.

We do have some exciting TJ-specific updates that you’ll be happy to hear:

  • Tuesday, May 26, is the confirmed last day of distance learning for TJ seniors.
  • No final exams this year. This was already announced several weeks ago.
  • TJ Diplomas have been ordered and are en route to TJ!!
  • TJ caps and gowns have been ordered, will be shipped to your homes and will arrive prior to graduation.  A more specific arrival date will be communicated within the next couple weeks.
  • TJ graduation programs have been ordered.  No word yet on a shipment date.
  • We recently surveyed parents and will use your feedback in planning graduation and other year-end events. Please see the survey results here. Students were separately surveyed and their results were shared with them.

Thanks to all who responded to the survey- you were very thoughtful.

During a time when so much feels like it has been taken from us, we look forward to giving back to you in unique and meaningful ways as we prepare to celebrate the Class of 2020!

Be well- mind, body, and spirit.

Dr. Ann N. Bonitatibus, Principal

Mr. Mike Yohe, Assistant Principal for Class of 2020
