Here is a picture of Leia and her brother Luca performing distance learning. They are doing two daily blocks of academic time where they practice writing, reading, social studies, math, science, PE, and music.
Good Morning Fairfax Villa Families,
We are excited to be going “live” again with our students on Monday with synchronous learning. We have missed seeing the faces of our favorite Dragons!
As we emailed on Wednesday, the teachers and specialists are creating student-specific links to Blackboard Collaborate Ultra to tighten security for synchronous learning. As each student-specific link is created, an email with the link is sent directly to each child’s fcpsschools.net email address. More information will be sent out by your child’s teacher.
Here is a video that explains how to easily find your child’s FCPS gmail. The “username” referred to there is the student number that students use to log into other applications such as Blackboard or myON. When the narrator mentions the “waffle grid” that is what we sometimes refer to as the “9 dots.” The video has Spanish subtitles.
Thank you for all you have been doing to support your children. We look forward to migrating synchronous (live) learning to the new Blackboard Collaborate Ultra links beginning Monday, April 27.
Stay safe and healthy!
Our best,
Dave Gerstner, Principal
KJ An, Assistant Principal
Barbara Schmidt, School Based Technology Specialist

Distance Learning Continues
Distance learning is continuing as teachers will provide new instructional opportunities through a variety of tools. Some resources for parents include:
Distance Learning YouTube Channel
Math and Language Arts Distance Learning Lessons broadcast on Apple 21 can now be accessed by teachers and students on demand. To view, go to Fairfax County Public Schools Distance Learning on YouTube and subscribe. Playlists are arranged by grade level (for math) and content (for language arts).
Content can also be accessed on the FCPS Apple 21 cable television channel and is streaming at https://www.fcps.edu/news-features-and-events/cable-tv/cable-tv-guide.
Distance Learning Plan Supports for Students with Disabilities
During these uncertain times, many parents have questions about how school closure will impact students who receive special education services. FCPS will be implementing Temporary Learning Plans (TLPs) for students with individualized education plans (IEPs) that will outline special education and related services during the school closure.
Special education teachers will discuss with parents their ability to use technology or instructional packets for educational activities in the home, as well as the specific needs each child has in the distance learning environment due to his or her disability. Selected and modified IEP goals and services will be offered that are individualized for students between now and the end of the school year.
More information about TLPs, annual IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, academic and social and emotional resources, and a list of contacts is now available online.
