Math Monday

Oak Hill students and staff showed how math matters.

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

We have had three amazing days of learning at Oak Hill! Routines have begun, schedules are in place and most technology kinks have been worked out both by staff and students. If your child is still experiencing any technology issues, please send an email to his/her teacher this week.

Mr. Credle and I are so proud of the Oak Hill students and staff for their tenacity and perseverance. It has been amazing to see children excited and laughing and telling stories and jokes again. We couldn’t be prouder of our staff for their steadfast commitment to their students. I would give this week a thumb’s up, for sure!

How are you doing this week? Are you taking time as a family to unplug and go for a bike ride or play a board game? I can tell you that checkers is the hot game right now in the DeVore household. What a game filled with strategy and patience! Two skills we needed over the last six weeks, for sure. Don’t forget that completing every assignment at the same intensity as when we were in school is not our goal. Do what you can, when you can, and you have my permission to let some things go. Because, some days the unplanned plan is the best plan to have under these circumstances. We look forward to celebrating with the kids next week and honoring our fabulous staff! If you can take time to send them a note, I know how much it would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

Distance Learning

We know many parents are juggling work, limited devices, upset schedules and routines and possibly a loss of a job. We do not want to add any additional stress. Please decide what you and your child can complete. Do you want to complete the packets only and not participate in online learning? Does your child enjoy online learning but is being bogged down by the work? Whatever the case might be, you are the parent and you know best! We only ask that you communicate your plan to the classroom teacher. Many of them are calling and emailing in an effort to check in with you and we do that out of care and concern. We do not want to become a bother. And, please know the door is always open should your circumstance be more conducive to the online platform.

Students Returning to Oak Hill?

Please fill out this form to let us know whether or not your K-5 student will be returning to Oak Hill next year.  Please submit the form by today.   We need this information from every family to help us determine appropriate staffing levels for next year.  Thank you.

Student Registration

reg

Schools remain closed to families; however, if you have a rising kindergartener or other new student to register, we would like to do a preliminary registration now.  If you know of any families that would be new to Oak Hill (that have rising kindergarteners or students in grades 1-6), please forward this information to them.  Early registration for next year is important as it ensures that we are appropriately staffed.

To register your child for school, please email jahorne@fcps.edu with “Registration” in the subject line.  If you are able to fill out the registration packet online, save it to your device, and attach it to the email to send back to us, that is the preferred option.  If you are not able to do that, please let us know when you might be available for a phone interview.  After we receive your email, we will reach out with any additional questions. If you have any questions or concerns about registration, please email Mrs. Horne.

A Note from the Oak Hill Student Services Team

We are here to support all Oak Hill students and families. We put together a list of resources that we hope will be helpful during this time. Please visit the Oak Hill ES School Counseling website to access this comprehensive Parent Resource Guide.

If your child is experiencing mental health challenges, any FCPS parent can schedule a 30 minute phone consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker. To schedule a phone consultation, parents should click this link. This service is not intended for mental health emergencies and if an emergency is suspected or indicated, please call 911.

Have your child visit the School Counseling Virtual Guidance Site for activities, fun ideas, and coping strategies. Check back weekly  for updates. Please note, students must first log in to their fcpsschools.net account.

Specialists Office Hours

Along with providing students with activities to choose from every week, specialists will also be holding office hours to connect with students and answer any questions they might have about the choice board activities. To access the specialists office hours, students need to log on to Blackboard, find the Oak Hill Specialists course and click the "Collaborate Sessions link" on the left side of the page. From there students will find the link for the teacher they are looking for and they can join the session. Please be mindful that they will not have access to the teacher if they join before the session starts, so please make sure to check the time and the day. We hope that students take advantage of these office hours as our specialists miss teaching and interacting with your children!
