HORNET HAPPENINGS
April 24, 2020
Dear Halley Families,
Thank you for your extraordinary patience as we work to provide a safe and accessible distance learning experience for your student(s). Following a meeting with FCPS leadership, elementary schools have received updated guidance to better support the synchronous instructional Distance Learning Plan. Teachers will be using either Google Meet OR Blackboard Collaborate Ultra for Synchronous (face to face, live) lessons, which will resume at Halley on Monday April 27th or Tuesday, April 28th. We are layering our training with teachers and they will follow-up with you regarding specific instructions and timelines for their classroom.
What does this mean for Halley students? “Bee” Ready:
- WHES teachers will be using either Google Meet or Blackboard Collaborate Ultra for synchronous sessions.
-
Google Meet links will be found within your student’s Google Classroom.
-
For BBCU, Halley Hornets will be using unique student-specific links to Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. The links will be emailed to students’ FCPS Gmail accounts very soon (Please see the example below). Your student can log in to those accounts through the FCPS G Suite page. The username/password used for logging in is the same information used to access the FCPS Blackboard page (your child’s 7-digit ID number plus the extension “@fcpsschools.net” and password)
- The link does not require additional logon steps or access to the Blackboard 24-7 portal.
- The steps for using the new link are outlined in this Video - English or Video-Spanish which will be shared with students
- Synchronous lessons, office hours and meetings can occur easily with BBCU and/or Google Mee
- Before Monday, we will need your help to prepare! All students will need to log into their Gmail account and find their invitation. Please practice with your child to log into your their FCPS Gmail account.
Thank you so much for all your support!
Blessings and Virtual Hugs,
Kerry Peerman, Principal
