Information Regarding Distance Learning

.Dear Gunston Community,

Dr. Brabrand has sent a letter to the community with the steps FCPS plans to execute moving forward.  Today, April 21, 2020, all students in FCPS schools will continue Distance Learning asynchronously through a variety of formats.  I understand that this experience is not what we were expecting and it is very frustrating, however, our teachers have been working diligently to provide meaningful lessons and activities for the students to engage in asynchronously (not live) until we return to “face-to-face” instruction.

To ensure students have access to assignments and continuity of learning, we would like Gunston students to continue with asynchronous learning by logging onto their Google Classrooms or completing assignments teachers have sent to you.  Students should look for messages, videos, assignments, etc. from their teachers this morning.  There will not be any live sessions for students, so please do not try logging onto Blackboard Collaborate Ultra sessions.  Specialists will provide links to optional activities and assignments for today through their teachers.  Teachers will send an email this morning, so families have easy access to these assignments.  Please allow time for teachers to communicate the students’ assignments for the day.  You should hear from your child’s teacher by 10:00 this morning.  Your child will have flexibility to complete the assignments at the time that works best for your family’s schedule.  Staff will be available to answer questions via email throughout the day.

We hope that you are well. Please let your students know how much we miss them.  We will continue to celebrate the military child this week with our spirit week.  Please look for links to flipgrids and we hope to see their own responses.

I will provide you with future updates as they are made available.  Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as our staff collaborates to provide meaningful experiences for all of our students.   Please reach out to your teachers if you have any questions about how to access lessons/activities today, as they are dedicated to supporting every child.

Sincerely,

Kristen Rucinski, Acting Principal, Gunston Elementary School
