Dear Families,
While we know there were some Blackboard connection issues early this morning, it seems that the afternoon classes are going great! FCPS is truly sorry for the frustration these technology issues have been causing our families, students, and teachers who were looking forward to connecting and learning together. Please know that Wolftrap teachers are just as eager as you to reconnect with your children and establish their teaching routines from Monday through Thursday. FCPS thanks you for your ongoing patience and based on all of the work I know is going on in the background, the IT department is trying hard to rectify the situation.
I wanted to highlight a few resources available to families during this time:
· FCPS Distance Learning YouTube Channel: The language arts and mathematics instructional videos that are being aired on Apple 21 are now available on demand on the FCPS Distance Learning YouTube Channel found here. Teachers and parents now have access to playlists which support distance learning, the instructional packet sent home, and classroom teacher instruction. The site will be updated regularly as videos are developed and finalized. Playlists are arranged by grade level (for math) and content (for language arts).
· Mental Health Resources: Numerous resources have been developed to support families, including the Healthy Minds Blog, Student Voice videos, and a Learning from Home webpage for families. These resources can be found on the following link: Social-Emotional and Wellness Resources for Families.
· Conservation Poster Contest: Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District is requesting entries for the 2020 poster contest. The theme is “Where Would We BEE Without Pollinators?” The competition is open to all students in grades K-12, and scouts who enter are eligible to receive a conservation poster contest scout patch. Winners in each age category will be sent to compete in the state competition. Entries from Fairfax County students must be submitted to NVSWCD by Friday, May 15, 2020. Learn more about the Conservation Poster Contest and how to enter.
· New Book: Kate Beckner, assistant principal at Clearview Elementary, wrote and illustrated (with the help of her daughter) a beautiful children’s book about school being closed and how to adapt to our new normal. Ms. Beckner reads the book aloud on this link: https://youtu.be/Jn3CBOrKL80
Sincerely,
Teresa Khuluki Principal

This week hopefully begins a new start for online learning for us. No matter what, we are grateful for the enormous work that our teachers and staff have put in so far. A big thank you for all their efforts!
Even with recent events, we still have much to celebrate within our community. Yesterday marked the end of a two-week long Wolftrap Elementary 5k and Fun Run event. We somehow found a way to "come together," share in some fitness, raise 100% of our summer goal for Wolftrap AND $2,000 in grocery gift cards for a local school. Just incredible! This herculean effort was driven by our Wolftrap families, our sponsors, the mighty 5k committee including leads Wendy Rosner, Corrine Fields, Helen Burton and the entire PTA board. Thanks to ALL, it was great to see this event continue and all the wonderful pictures!
More good things happening at Wolftrap-- check out the cards by Wolftrap students for INOVA first responders below, this month's Dining for Dollars at Social Burger, as well as the new Summer Book Bundle offering. Much like the Sprouts supply boxes, we are bringing this on as a nominal fundraiser for the PTA and as a helpful tool for parents.
As always, feel free to reach out and stay safe Wolftrap!
All the best,

Looking forward to next year! There are still definite needs for volunteering, in particular Odyssey of the Mind, the Directory, AmazonSmile, AIM, Talent Show and Reflections.
Please consider helping out where you can, but don't worry! There are always other mentors and volunteers to help at Wolftrap. It's easy to have an impact in a way that's manageable for you. And it's the single best way to know the school from your child's perspective. Take a look and find your volunteering sweet spot today!

Thank you Wolftrap Community for running wild supporting the Virtual 5k!! We had 462 registrants raising 100% of our goal for the school and $2,000 in grocery gift cards for a local school in need! Though the race was a bit different this year, this community adapted enjoying outdoor activity while sporting our vibrant race shirts.
Thank you all who posted to Facebook your virtual race pictures. Your names will put in for the Elevation Burger gift card drawing. Winners will be posted to Facebook no later than Wednesday, April 22.
