stay safe

Dear Poplar Tree Families,

I hope this message finds you safe and healthy! We have successfully completed our first full week of distance learning. I appreciate everyone's flexibility at the beginning of the week when we changed our log-in procedures again. I am optimistic that we will experience smooth sailing for the rest of the school year - fingers crossed.

It is hard to believe that the month of May is right around the corner. Teacher appreciation week is May 4 - May 8, and I know how much I appreciate all of our PTES staff! Although we can not be together physically, I encourage you to think of virtual ways to show how much you care about our teachers and staff. The appreciation does not have to be elaborate, just from the heart.

I have also included information below about the upcoming Principal's coffee and PTA meeting. I hope you can join us!

I leave you with this - please be kind to yourself. I know you are all balancing a great deal at home right now between work and supporting your children. All any of us can do is our best, and our best is pretty darn good under the circumstances :).

Take care,

Sue Andujar, Principal

Specials

Specials Choice Boards

We want to make sure everyone is aware of our Specials Choice Boards! These choice boards are available in each grade level's FCPS 24-7/Blackboard page, and are also available on our Student Distance Learning Site here (only accessible when students log in using their fcpsschools.net accounts!) There will be a new Choice Board each week. Our specials teachers - Art, PE, Music, Library, Spanish, Band, Strings, and Advanced Academics - have added lots of choices of fun things your students can do at home! Enjoy!

Want more information about distance learning? Check out our Poplar Tree website here where we share resources for both students and families. We will continue to add resources in the coming months!

registration

Kindergarten & New Student Registration

Schools remain closed to families; however, if you have a rising kindergartner or other new student to register, we would like to do a preliminary registration now.  Early registration for next year is important as it supports the number of teachers for which we are staffed.

Please visit our website to start the registration process. For questions about any of this, please contact our school registrar, Kirsten Prindle at kcprindle@fcps.edu.

When the office re-opens, we will ask you to come to the school to present the necessary documentation for registration (child’s original birth certificate, physical and immunizations, enrolling parent’s ID, lease/deed to your home). This will finalize your child’s registration.

yearbook

Yearbook News

Please know that we miss seeing our students!  We hope that all of our Panther families are staying safe!  During this challenging time of distance learning we would like to include the magical learning happening at your house in our school yearbook.  Capture photos of your student(s) demonstrating the wonderful things they are learning at home; drawing a picture with paper and pencil, using an online educational tool, playing an educational board game, reading a book, taking a walk to observe seasonal changes, exercising, etc.  Photos that include other family members helping your student(s) learn are always welcome.  After all, we are in this together.  Please email photos to ptybphotos@gmail.com and include your student(s) grade level.  We will do our best to include a photo from everyone but we cannot guarantee that all the photos will be used.  Photos must be received by Monday, April 27, 2020

Yearbooks can still be ordered online at ybpay.lifetouch.com.  The code for our school is 6630320

At this time online ordering is the only way to purchase a yearbook.

The yearbook cost is $20 and can be purchased online until Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
