Distance Learning Update for Today 4/15/2020

Good Morning Westbriar Families,

Yesterday, FCPS identified several online security concerns related to distance learning that needed to be addressed.  Notifications about a 2 hour delay for today, April 15th were sent out to schools and families yesterday evening.  FCPS has come up with solutions to address these security concerns.  Part of that solution is time allotted today to train our staff on putting security measures into place before distance learning can resume.

Due to these unforeseen circumstances, I have decided to cancel online teaching and office hour sessions for today, April 15th, so teachers can be trained on how to implement these new security measures and take the time to accurately put these measures into action.  If teachers are able to complete all the required updates and security measures today and are able to resume live sessions or office hours, they will contact you.  It was imperative to me that our teachers have adequate time to be trained on using these new security measures so they can ensure all students will have a safe online experience.

I know and understand the inconvenience this may cause.  Please know that I did not make this decision lightly and feel I needed to take these steps that would ensure the safety and security of each student’s distance learning experience - that is a top priority.  Our teachers had a great day of learning with their students and I know they want to reconnect with them as soon as possible.

Thank you for your flexibility, understanding, and support.

Principal Tam
