Our First Distance Learning Experience

From The Principal

Family,

Today, we experienced our first day of formal distance learning. While the vast majority of classroom experiences where favorable and positive, regrettably we had a small number of students who decided to disrupt the learning of many others.  If there is a bright side to this, it would be that we weren’t the lone high school experiencing this kind of negative behavior.  Unfortunately most of my high school principal colleagues dealt with the same issues.  The behavior of these students was absolutely unacceptable.

We are all working with our technology teams and county-wide supports to implement solutions to combat the types of disruptions we experienced today.  On behalf of all our teachers and staff, I sincerely apologize for the experience your child may have had today.  No child or adult should be subjected to abusive language or antics of any kind.

Our admin team is working “around the clock” to solve these issues.  We fully expect to have a much more secure infrastructure in place when we open classes back up on Thursday.  As a part of our work, I am going to ask for your help in this as well.  Please take a moment to have a conversation with your child about the importance of respecting the space all our students are forced to live in right now.  It is difficult enough for most of us not being able to function normally due to the pandemic.  It becomes imperative that we all do our best to help create an environment that will bring some sense of normalcy back to us.

I thank you in advance for your time and your understanding of today’s disruptions.  You may receive additional information from the district about our issues today.  I felt I needed to get something out to you sooner than later.  If you have further concerns after Thursday’s classes, please feel free to contact me.  Have a safe and comfortable evening.

Warm Regards,

Gary
