We hope all Lees Corner families are staying home, remaining positive and healthy, and showing their school spirit. It's not too late to share your photos on our Facebook PTA page.

Good afternoon Lees Corner Families!

Our teachers and staff members have been working hard planning and preparing for Distance Learning which will begin on Tuesday, April 14th. All Fairfax County Public Schools will observe Spring Break next week from April 6th-10th.

In this week's News You Choose (NYC) entitled, "Lees Corner Updates 4/3/20" we will provide you with information about grading and the schedule for distance learning which begins on Tuesday, April 14th. In addition, we are providing additional helpful updates.

GRADING

Elementary Students No fourth quarter grades will be assigned to elementary students due to equity issues of access to technology and limited student ability to submit work during distance learning. Elementary students will engage in teacher-led and independent learning. Learning packets will be distributed by mail to all PK-6 students beginning the week of March 30. Literacy and math content will also be made available on FCPS Cable Channel 21.

We understand some students have not yet received the first packet containing review materials. We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while waiting for packets to arrive. Packets are being prepared and mailed to ALL PK-8 students in FCPS. This is a huge undertaking! Packets that have not yet arrived should arrive in the next week.

SCHEDULE

Elementary School Students: Teachers will provide one hour of virtual instruction per day, Monday through Thursday, and will be available for one hour of “office” time to provide individual and small group support during those four days. Fridays will be used for staff meetings, grade level meetings, and team collaboration and planning.

Click on the link below to see Lees Corner"s Daily Schedule.

LCES Draft Schedule_Distance Learning.pdf .Teachers will share more detailed schedules with families on Monday, April 13th. Please remember that April 13th is still a teacher workday.

Learning Activities:

Students will have access to weekly print activities through centrally created and distributed learning packets. • Students will engage with the teacher in virtual chat as detailed in the school schedule. • Video lessons available on cable Channel 21 and through Channel 21 web streaming. • Teacher created activities will be posted in FCPS 24-7 Blackboard to ensure caregiver access. • G Suite and Google Classroom may be used for students to complete activities. • Students should have both off and on-screen learning activities.

As we transition to this Distance Learning model of instruction, we are focused on supporting the social and emotional needs of our students. Our clinical team will be collaborating with our teachers during this transition and will be available for continued student and family support. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s counselor or to our school social worker, Olivia Yellen, if you need any assistance!

Our entire staff is looking forward to engaging with students and families again as we all begin this new learning experience together! We may be physically separated, but all of you remain close to us in our hearts and in our minds. If you have questions, concerns, or just want to say hello, please reach out to us directly via email.

We wish you all continued good health and much happiness!

Keep Reading: Library News

Please continue to enjoy your school library books at home. No books are overdue, and they should be returned when Lees Corner re-opens. Remember to check Blackboard for eBooks available for you to check out electronically or listen to. You may also find library resources at www.fcps.edu. Click on the word “Library” in white letters in the blue ribbon. It is the fourth word from the left.

Families throughout FCPS are asked not to take books to school when they arrive for technology pickup or when visiting meal sites. If a school does receive library books from home, they will be placed on a cart separately from the collection and allowed their own quarantine time.

Keep reading and talking with friends and loved ones about what you are reading.

Sending you much love and sunshine,

Mrs. Dunbar,  Librarian

Mrs. Poole, Reading Teacher & Literacy Leader
