FCHS News & Announcements - 4/2/20

fchs

Jaguar Community,

I hope this message finds you as well as can be in these trying times. We kicked off Monday with our first virtual faculty meeting. This week FCHS faculty and staff have been attending training and meetings in preparation for distance learning to begin on Tuesday, April 14th. I would like to thank all of our Jaguar staff for their hard work.

Teachers are currently reaching out to students with directions on how to complete any outstanding 3rd quarter work by April 24th and providing previews of what to expect during the next several weeks. Please take time with your child to visit FCPS Blackboard 24-7 Learning where teachers post messages. Blackboard and Google Classroom are the two FCPS-approved digital platforms for instructional delivery and allow students to video conference, collaborate, and complete assignments.

When the distance learning plan launches on April 14th, all high school students will follow a rotation schedule of synchronous and asynchronous learning. The virtual instruction is not meant to replicate face-to-face instruction so it will look very different from what was happening in the building only a month ago.

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be times for students to work on assignments on their own. Each teacher will provide students with “office hours” during usual school hours where students can ask questions, seek help individually or simply listen to others as they ask questions.
  • Tuesday and Thursday will be used for direct virtual instruction. On Tuesday, students will virtually attend periods 1, 3, 5, & 7. On Thursday, students will attend periods 2, 4, & 6.

From now until April 24th, students have the opportunity to make-up work that was assigned in the 3rd quarter prior to March 13th. SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE are great resources to reference what that may include. The third quarter will end April 24th. Students will earn a letter grade for third quarter.

During the 4th quarter, teachers will continue instruction of new content and provide students assignments intended to only positively impact their overall performance in a course. It is important that all students complete this work. It is designed to help students continue to build skills and prepare for next school year.

Thank you for the support and patience you will give to teachers and students in the coming weeks. We will do the best we can in this moment...and that is all we can expect of each other. We will be honoring Spring Break, so if you contact a staff member after tomorrow, responses may be delayed until April 13th.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, an administrator, a school counselor, a teacher or other staff member. We are here to support you and your child.
