Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood families:

We can hardly believe that it is April 1st!  We have been busy in our hive this week!  Monday we welcomed the teachers back.  We had a great virtual kickoff with teachers on Monday and have been meeting with them virtually since then. Our teachers have been working hard all week to prepare for distance learning!

We are so excited to reconnect with students this week in an online Morning Meeting.  We have already been to 4 today!  Your child’s teachers have sent an email with a link to students’ online classrooms in Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU).  For those of you who have meetings tomorrow, we hope to see your child there!!! A few reminders when using BBCU:

1. Your child should only log in with their first name.
2. When entering the room, your child’s video/audio settings are automatically set to “off”.  Teachers can give students permissions to turn on those features, should your family want your child to engage “face-to-face”.  Your family can decide to opt out of video/audio, if you are not comfortable.

You will be receiving an eNotify message from us later this week.  It will include the instructional schedule for the week of April 14th. We will also be sending an updated digital permission slip for some of the supplemental tools teams might plan on using.

Dr. Mitchell and I have loved seeing pictures of so many of our smiling stingers!  Mr. Spector is going to help with making our slideshows for staff and pictures for our Hive Happenings, so please email Mr. Spector directly with your pictures, bmspector@fcps.edu.

FCPS 24-7 Learning Resources

Students can participate in optional, self-directed learning activities on FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard). FCPS is also sending out a mailing to any parents who still have not set up their account.

Please reach out to Meredith Mitchell (mamitchell@fcps.edu) or Jackie Krum (jekrum@fcps.edu) if you are experiencing difficulty in accessing your or your child’s account.

This website also has help for requesting assistance with your ParentVue accounts.

This video from the FCPS website provides an excellent tutorial on how to access these resources:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pzly26oPcUM&feature=youtu.be

FCPS continues to expand the number of locations for food sites.  Please use this link as it will continue to be updated.

How to Talk to your Child about COVID-19

It is important that you have conversations with your children about why they are out of school, and that everyone is doing their best to make sure that they are safe and healthy. As you begin to plan these conversations consider reading Talking to Children about COVID-19.

ParentVue  Accounts

This weekend, you should receive an email from FCPS if you do not already have a ParentVue account.

We implore you to please sign-up for an account. A ParentVue account makes it possible for parents to access the FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) portal.

If you already have an account, you can log-in here. This is where several of the resources for students will be located in the coming weeks. If you need help setting up your account, please call. We will happily walk you through the process.

Cable Channels - Continuity of Learning

FCPS is currently creating instructional learning programs that will air on your local cable channel. Finally, a time when we suggest you let your kids watch TV!

Additional instructional videos are being developed/recorded and will be added into the lineup as they are available.  Please check this week for programs that will benefit your children at home.
