HES School House News - April 2

HES School House News

April 2, 2020

Hello Hayfield Families!

We hope you are all well and finding ways to connect as a family during these unprecedented times. We virtually met with our staff this week and everyone is busy learning and preparing for Distance Learning that will begin on Tuesday, April 14. Our teachers are excited to “return to the classroom” and support students in their continued learning and to maintain those connections that we enjoy so much! Please know that just as you may experience technology issues, scheduling challenges, and changes in routine, our staff is experiencing the same challenges. With patience and understanding, we will navigate and overcome these challenges together. As we move into the coming weeks, we want to assure you that in addition to critical news updates, we will continue to send our bi-weekly HES School House News newsletter to keep you updated on all news and announcements. While teachers are training and preparing this week, please continue to access the FCPS-provided supplemental learning resources and activities posted on FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard) and the FCPS website. Also, be on the lookout for the instructional packets that are being mailed centrally by the Instructional Services Department within FCPS.

As always, if we can be of any assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Jessica Lewis & Samantha Goldstein

We understand field trips were scheduled and paid for across several grade levels. We do appreciate your patience as we wait for further information from FCPS regarding any possible refunds for field trips that were planned.

Hayfield PTA After School Programs

Due to the closure of schools all after school programs have been cancelled.   If your student was registered for a spring 2020 Enrichment Matters class, please refer to the email sent from Enrichment Matters regarding refunds.  Please, note, the HES PTA will not be using Enrichment Matters as the vendor for the 2020-2021 after school programs.

HES Yearbook Needs Your Help

Our Hayfield Family is saddened by the school year ending so abruptly and we want to ensure that we can capture the memories that were made in the best way possible.

The 2020 yearbook is in need of some photos to help us finish up.

We want to capture this unusual end to our school year by including some pictures of students/families learning and working at home. If you’d like to contribute, please feel free to share your photos (.jpeg) with us for possible inclusion in the book! You can e-mail them to Joyce Lin – who is our yearbook coordinator – at jllin@fcps.edu. We won’t be able to include all pictures received in the yearbook, but we may create a photo gallery on our website or share photos through e-mail as well.  Please have all photos emailed no later than April 10.

In additionif you happen to have any photos from school events this year – classroom pictures, field trip pictures, spirit day pictures, concert pictures, etc. – please send those as well for possible inclusion in the yearbook. Be sure to indicate which class/event is pictured.

Please enjoy your school library books at home. No books are overdue and they can be returned when school buildings re-open. Don’t forget to check Blackboard or our virtual library page: https://www.smore.com/8bngq for ebooks available for you to check out or listen to. Happy reading!

Registration for School Year 2020-2021

Children residing in our boundaries who will turn 5 years old on or before September 30, 2020, as well as students in grades 1-6 transferring from Private/Home Schools or moving into our boundaries prior to the start of the new school year may visit our website and select an appointment to register. Due to the closure of schools, appointments through June are cancelled.  However, we are asking that anyone needing to register new students for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year select an available appointment by visiting our Student Registration page and clicking the button. This will allow our registrar to notify you of any steps that may be taken in the meantime to process the enrollment, get immediate information to you for when we are back up and running and if earlier appointments become available, as well as allow us to adequately prepare for next school year.  Please note that staffing for next school year is supported by early registration. Please do not wait to sign up for an appointment. We appreciate your support in this effort!

All information pertaining to registration, including eligibility and forms is outlined in the Sign-Up Genius where the appointment selection is available.https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050f49aca62aa46-20202021
