Also here is a link to a podcast that Mr. E recommends about distance learning.

Staff Communication

Please continue to keep an eye on your email for important updates and reminders.  In addition, phone calls may be made to our families, and because staff are working from home, please know the caller ID may say "Private Caller" or "No Caller ID"  If you see one of those, chances are it could be a Liberty Middle School staff member, so please pick up!

From the Liberty Library

Students can keep enjoying their school library books at home. No books are overdue, and they can be returned when school buildings re-open. Don’t forget to check the library catalog for ebooks available for you to check out or listen to. Log in with your  FCPS username and password.  Happy reading!

Reading: Home Tips  and Resources:

  • Students should read a minimum of 20 minutes daily. This is just to maintain skill level.  Additional reading is needed to make improvement.
  • Novels are great, but magazines, non-fiction articles, audiobooks, graphic novels, are also wonderful ways to support reading.
  • When a student chooses what they read, their interest and motivation increases!
  • Classic games like Scrabble, Boggle, and even word-game phone apps support vocabulary development.
  • It helps to have a comfortable place to read (if possible)—a desk, chair, comfy corner, decent lighting, etc...

library

Four FREE ways to access texts at home:

  • Newsela—currently offering free access to all students; contains high interest/relevant articles with adjustable reading levels across content areas.
  • Scholastic—Learn at Home. Offering free content for all grade levels. High-interest articles on a variety of skills.  Daily and weekly activities are included.
  • MyOn—all elementary/middle FCPS students have access. Generally aimed at elementary students, they do have a lot of middle school content, and many of the books have the “read aloud feature”.
  • Liberty’s Online Library--has 1,000s of books for students to read online as well as listen to. There is a Mackin Via app students can download too. They log in to the catalog using their normal FCPS login when they click on the Mackin Via link.
