Information for GBW Families

Dear GBW Families,

We hope you are doing well.  Please know that the staff have been working hard to answer questions and to prepare for the distance learning that begins on April 14.  In the meantime, here are some items of importance:

To plan for distance learning, we need to make sure we know about each student’s access to technology at home.

Grade K-2 Parents:  Please e-mail your classroom teacher if you have a device at home that your child can use (laptop, desktop, iPad, etc.), or if you do not.  This information will help drive the teacher’s decisions about communication and instruction moving forward.

Grade 3-6 Parents:  If your children did not bring their laptop home, and/or there is a tech issue with the laptop, by Monday at 10:00 AM, please e-mail BOTH your child’s teacher and our technology specialist “Mr. Thanh” at tdnguyen@fcps.edu.  We are arranging for an appointment-only Tuesday tech pick-up for these students.  Only these families will receive a communication later on Monday about the scheduled pick-up time.

Grade 4-6 Parents:  If your children left an instrument in the building, please e-mail the band or strings teacher by Monday at 10:00 AM if you haven’t already.  We are arranging for an appointment only instrument pick-up on Tuesday.  Only these families will receive a communication later on Monday about the scheduled pick-up time.

We are taking the health of our families and staff very seriously, so we are emphasizing that the only family members permitted at the building to pick up an instrument or laptop will be by appointment only.  Other personal items and medicine pick-up will be for another time.  Thank you for understanding.

Earlier today, we met with staff about distance learning via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, and we have more to learn and do next week as we continue to prepare for the first day, April 14.  Later next week, each grade level will be sharing a tentative schedule with families.  We know that schedules can be simultaneously comforting AND stressful as families juggle so many changes and demands.  Therefore, we will see how schedules work that first week and then make adjustments as needed.  Please know that throughout this planning process, staff members are doing, and will continue to do, their very best to consider students’ and families’ needs.

Thank you, and more information will be shared with families next week.

Sincerely,

Patricia A. Granada, Ed.D.
