Dear Westbriar Parents:
I am very thankful to you for the generosity shown to several families in need with your donations of gift cards to purchase groceries. I also appreciate that our wonderful PTA board has organized a way for you to drop off more gift cards so I can continue to distribute those cards to families in our community.
I am reaching out to ask for your assistance on another important matter. Below is a message from one of our parents. Please feel free to forward as applicable. Thank you all for your care for our school and our community.

Dear Westbriar Community -
My daughter Eliza, a 4th grader at Westbriar Elementary, was born with a rare bone marrow failure disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia and needs a blood transfusion every three weeks to live because she can't make her own red blood. Eliza's doctor and nurse coordinator from the pediatric Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Inova Schar Cancer Institute have requested that families and friends of patients circulate the emails below. Eliza's clinic services hundreds of children who need blood to survive. Due to the extreme shortage, patients will only been given blood in very extreme cases and therefore many people/children, including Eliza, will not get the blood they need to keep them healthy. This scenario puts extreme stress on organs, and places already compromised people at even higher risk.
IF you are healthy, meet the guidelines, and feel well, PLEASE consider donating to the Inova Blood Donor Services. Even though your blood will not go directly to Eliza at this time, by donating blood, you will help many people by increasing the total available units that the hospital needs every day.
