Principal's Message
Today it was announced that all FCPS school buildings are closed until further notice.
The scheduled opportunity for students and staff to retrieve their belongings has been postponed. Student and staff well-being are paramount, and we will find ways to give students access to the building as soon as we are able to safely do so.
FCPS has made plans to provide continuity of learning during this break. The goal is for students to continue to engage in learning activities. The first two weeks of school closure (from Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 27) will not include any teacher-directed instruction. Students can participate in optional, self-directed learning activities that have been posted on FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard) and are available at www.fcps.edu. Again, these activities are not required, nor graded.
Beginning tomorrow, March 16, FCPS is expanding the grab and go food distribution sites to a total of 18 locations. The food distribution is set up outside the schools.
Breakfast will be served from 8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. These are the locations closest to Sleepy Hollow Elementary School:
- Annandale Terrace ES, 7604 Herald St., Annandale
- Bailey's Primary ES, 6111 Knollwood Dr., Falls Church
- Braddock ES, 7825 Heritage Dr., Annandale
- Graham Road Community Center, 3036 Graham Rd., Falls Church
Please take care of yourself and your family. As always, thank you for your trust. Let me know if you ever have any questions or concerns.

COVID-19
Our collective community is concerned about COVID-19, and FCPS is vigilant in their communication and careful monitoring. Here is website with current updates and a video from the Fairfax County Health Department: https://www.fcps.edu/news/coronavirus-update. FCPS officials have been reviewing our current procedures and operating plans in the event of a pandemic influenza. I am confident in our system’s leadership with safety as our number one priority. For parents who are concerned about upcoming, school-sponsored trips, as of now, only international field trips have been suspended, but FCPS is remaining hyper-vigilant should a change need to be made. The division is providing regular communication to the community through the eNotify system, so it is critical for our school to have accurate email addresses and phone numbers of parents.
Our goal is to teach our students good hygiene practices that include, coughing or sneezing into a tissue and throwing the tissue in the trash after using, frequent handwashing for at least 20 seconds and of the importance of not touching eyes, nose and mouth. Parents and guardians, I ask that you keep your child at home if he/she is sick. I know that missing a day of school is frustrating, but we want to ensure that we all stay healthy.
