IMPORTANT: Timber Lane Distance Learning Resources

Update from Mr. Chiet

Dear Timber Lane Families,

As you read in Dr. Brabrand’s communication, all FCPS schools will be closed until further notice.  Distribution of laptops, books, and other material for 3/16 been cancelled until further notice.  Please know that this decision was not made lightly and that it will protect our entire community. From my home to yours, I encourage you to stay home and practice social distancing as much as possible.  Take time to connect with your loved ones and know that by staying home, you are helping take care of your family as well as helping take care of others.

If your child has access to the internet, s/he can participate in optional, self-directed learning activities that have been posted on FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard) and are available at www.fcps.edu.   Again, these activities are not required, nor graded.  Between 3/16 and 3/27 students can access online resources (provided below).  If your child does not have access to the internet, s/he may want to engage in some of the following activities: read 20 minutes per day, write in a journal, engage in play that includes movement, help with cooking, and create artwork. I also encourage you to explore Internet Essentials from Comcast - they are offering 60 days of free internet.

Beginning tomorrow, March 16, FCPS is expanding the grab and go food distribution sites to a total of 18 locations, including the Graham Road Community Center (the location closest to you all).  The address is: Graham Road Community Center, 3036 Graham Rd., Falls Church.  The food distribution is set up outside the building.   Breakfast will be served from 8-10:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

I urge you to please stay informed by reading my e-Notify and News-You-Choose messages, and reading the e-mails from Dr. Brabrand. You can also review important information through Fairfax County’s COVID-19 updates as well as recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and the Virginia Department of Health. I will be here to help support in any way I can. As always, please feel to reach out via e-mail at bjchiet@fcps.edu with any questions or suggestions.

Instruction has been interrupted; our children’s daily routine, social opportunities and learning has been turned upside down.  As adults it’s important now for us to try to create normalcy for our children.  Consistent routines and expectations help with this.  We recommend consistent wake up and bedtime as well as mealtime.  Each day should also include academic time, house and family work time, and play and downtime.  Please see the suggested schedule below to help your family create routines that will benefit all family members.  Be well, take care and stay tuned.  We will all get through this together!

Digital Citizenship REMINDERS

Timber Lane parents and students, as we introduce continue our use of technology at Timber Lane Elementary, it is important to remember to: 1) Keep Your Passwords Private; 2) Share with Care – Think Before You Click!; and 3) Shutdown your computer properly by clicking the power icon and SHUTDOWN on your computer.  Wait until all of the lights on your computer are off – then, plug your computer in so that it is charged and ready to go the next time you need it!  Keep your computer healthy!

URGENT REMINDER!  Timber Lane ES has invested a significant amount in technology to support student learning at our school.  Laptops, headphones, computer mice, and power cords are used daily within our school.  It is VERY important that students care for these and other essential tools, such as books, writing tools, and math manipulatives so that our learning community can continue to thrive.  Please reinforce the importance of contributing to our caring culture by showing strong digital citizenship that respects the technology that has been provided at our school so that we can use it for many years to come.
