Dear Ravensworth Families and Community,

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to address and plan for the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

On Tuesday, Dr. Brabrand announced that Monday, March 16, will be designated a student holiday. This student holiday will provide an opportunity for our staff to prepare for the possibility of distance learning in the event of a school closure.  We will use this day as a staff training day and all staff will report to work.

This is an evolving situation and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has created a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and information page that is updated regularly as we receive more information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  You can find that information at the link: https://www.fcps.edu/news/coronavirus-update

At Ravensworth we are following all the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) and CDC guidelines, along with direction from our Superintendent.  We are encouraging students to practice good hygiene: wash your hands, cover your cough, and stay home if you are sick.

Sincerely,

Erika Aspuria

Principal

Tdap Notice for Parents of 6th Graders

Virginia Law requires that all students entering 7th grade receive a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine prior to the beginning of school. The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) and is usually given around the age of 11, although it can be given as early as seven years of age.

In order for your child to begin 7th grade you will need to submit a copy of your child’s immunization record showing the Tdap vaccine before the first day of school on August 25, 2020 It is recommended that all paperwork is submitted to Ravensworth's office by June 12, 2020

NOTEAfter June 12th, 2020, T-dap Documentation will need to be delivered directly to Lake Braddock MS.

Kindergarten Registration and Kindergarten Orientation

Do you or your neighbors have a child who is or will be 5 years old by September 30th?  We are beginning to register students for the 2020-2021 school year.  Registration forms are available via the Ravensworth website.  Please call the Ravensworth front office at 703-426-3600 to schedule an appointment to meet with the school registrar.  Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21st from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Author Visit

On March 27th, author Kristen Ball will be visiting our 4th – 6th graders to share about her fictional book, A Calf Named Brian Higgins.  The book is inspired by Kristen’s real experiences from 2005, when after receiving a scholastic grant, she became the first Westerner to live in Sauri, Kenya!  Kristen has over 15 years of teaching and school administrative experience.  She spent 9 years teaching middle school where she pioneered a School-to-School program connecting her class with students in rural East Africa.  She loves traveling adventures.  Some of her favorites include hiking in the Himalayas in Nepal and canoeing along the Mekong River in Cambodia.

If you would like to purchase a copy of A Calf Named Brian Higgins for your child to read and get signed by Kristen when she visits in March, you may do so using one of the following links.

Your Views and Opinions Are Important to Us!

This spring all Ravensworth parents will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This survey is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various issues related to our school.  These issues include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism.

The survey will be collected online between March 12 and March 26.  When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the survey.  Your opinions matter.

Positivity Project

Positivity Project

This week’s character strength is Social Intelligence. You show this strength when are aware of other people’s thoughts and feelings and understand why they do things. Social intelligence refers to a person’s ability to understand and manage interpersonal relationships. It involves emotional intelligence and self-awareness. Social intelligence helps individuals build relationships – and is important to numerous aspects of a person’s life. It allows an individual to form friendships and alliances. And, it assists a person against being taken advantage of. People with social intelligence can “read” other people’s faces and know what motivates them. Social intelligence builds over time and as a person ages. In this sense, it is similar to the character strength of perspective.

Census 2020

Dear FCPS Families and Staff,

The 2020 Census count impacts how billions of dollars in federal funds are distributed each year for programs and services that are critical for schools and students such as special education, Head Start, food assistance, and Title I grants that help serve low-income families.
