Terra Centre Families,
In support of the governor’s announcement today, and in response to the ongoing concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in our region, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will close schools March 16 through April 10, 2020. Schools will be closed for students for four weeks, including spring break.
School Age Child Care (SACC) will be closed for the weeks of March 16 and March 23. SACC plans to offer an additional week of Spring Break services at consolidated sites the week of March 30 and plans to offer regularly scheduled Spring Break services the week of April 6. The system for registration for the weeks of March 30 and April 6 will be communicated to all SACC families. (Please Note: SACC is operated by the Fairfax County Government, not FCPS.)
FCPS schools will be accessible on Monday, March 16, for students and staff to access their belongings as well as providing laptops or other digital devices for students in grades 3-8. Please stay tuned for more details and scheduled times.
For families needing internet, effective Monday, March 16, 2020, Comcast is offering 2 months free to new Internet Essentials customers in response to recent and anticipated emergency measures associated with the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Please use this website for more information: https://www.internetessentials.com/
FCPS has been working to prepare for school closures and has developed numerous resources for families. The Virginia Department of Education has recommended that all public school systems provide continuity of learning programming for the next three weeks. FCPS will promote digital and online resources to FCPS students that will help student learning continue. This work will not be required nor graded. This is a unique circumstance and we recognize that this is challenging for many families. Please do what works for your family.
Student learning activities will be made available through FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard). Parents can begin to prepare by ensuring they have a Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account and are able to login to FCPS 24-7 Learning: Parent View. If you do not have a Student Information System (SIS) Parent account, you can register for an account online. An activation key will be sent to you to complete your registration, along with the simple steps to set up your account. Your username and password for the Student Information System (SIS) and FCPS 24-7 Learning: Parent View will be the same.
FCPS cable channels with learning activities are now available. New instructional videos are currently being developed and recorded and will be added to the programming shortly. Channel 21 includes elementary school programming, Channel 25 includes middle school programming, and Channel 99 includes high school programming. This content will also be available online at www.fcps.edu.
Fairfax County Public Schools will be providing emergency grab and go meals throughout the closures at no cost for students at five sites, with plans to expand to additional schools. Students are welcome to come to any of the five sites to pick up meals during the listed time periods. We are coordinating with community partners to ensure the locations and timing of food centers and pantries are being communicated with FCPS families. More information on this is available here.
Breakfast will be available from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following locations:
- Bailey’s Elementary School, 6111 Knollwood Drive, Falls Church
- Hutchison Elementary School, 13209 Parched Avenue, Herndon
- Hybla Valley Elementary School, 3415 Lockheed Boulevard, Alexandria
- London Towne Elementary School, 6100 Stone Road, Centreville
- Burke Center, 9645 Burke Lake Road, Burke
A variety of resources about coronavirus, including Talking to Children about Covid-19, a handout about COVID-19 from the FCHD, and updated FCPS information and FAQs have been posted at https://www.fcps.edu/news/coronavirus-update.
We are grateful for your support and understanding during this difficult time. Our first priority remains the safety and well-being of our students, staff, families, and community. Resources and updates to the current operating status will continue to be posted on the FCPS website and shared on social media and other outlets. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns.

Burke UMC is a community partner with Terra Centre E.S. They support food donations throughout the community, including families at Terra Centre. They are having difficulty acquiring items at this time. If you would like to donate any items for the Hungry Kids Ministry Weekend Food Bags, there is a list of needed items above. Please note: they do not need any additional oatmeal currently.
Although the church is closed until the end of the month, donations can be placed under the roof in front of the church (Burke UMC, 6200 Burke Centre Pkwy). They will have bins out to collect donations daily. Thank you for supporting our families and community!
Your Views and Opinions Are Important to Us!
This spring all Terra Centre parents will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This survey is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various issues related to our school. These issues include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism.
The survey will be collected online between March 12 and March 26. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the survey. Your opinions matter.
School Health Services Survey
The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) employs school health aides and public health nurses who provide school health services to the students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). To determine the quality of these services, a survey has been developed by the FCHD for parents to share feedback. Electronic versions of the survey forms may be accessed at:
School Health Services Survey – Parents 2020: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K9VWCJ6 approval # 20217
School Health Services Survey-Parents 2020 (Spanish): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K7KGXTS approval #20217
The survey will take less than five minutes to complete and will provide the FCHD with valuable information. Your participation in this important endeavor is appreciated.
